Thanks on the ideas. You really did change the political landscape of you Mystara. The economic and political effects must have created a host of adventure possibilities in your campaign. I especially liked the elevated status of Rockhome, and the lowering of elf-dwarf tension - I've been thinking of something like that in my Nomad War, since the elves and dwarves will most likely intervene in the Ylari invasion of eastern Darokin. (Ylaruam didn't join the war on the side of the Nomads, but declared war on Darokin nonetheless - a diplomatic trick that frustrated the PCs to no end - mainly by using the "traitors" and "subversives" of Selenica as casus belli.) IMC the elven losses in the Nomad War won't be that bad, although breaking the Darokin siege and the eastern intervention will be costly. Still, the ideas on the isolationist clans and Elven War Bands (doing "crusades" in Sind/Hule?) sounded good. I've been devising a same kind of destructive future for Glantri, Darokin (which will be crippled by the Nomad war too) and Alfheim later on IMC, sort of WWII. Only this time the invasion will not come from the Sind or Broken Lands, but it is machinated by "Aphastes", a villain I devised in my "Twin Campaigns" In the future war most of north-western Alfheim may yet be devastated - i've been thinking of using this as a catalyst for the CM7 Tree of Life thread, as the worsened situation of Alfheim forces them to look for resettlement areas in the lost Sylvan Realm. Thos might fit best for the isolationist sects, propably... BTW, did you involve the Oenkmarians in your humanoid wars? Strangely enough I was looking at these very items last night before I read your post this morning. I plan on reading them after I download them tonight. > In case, all of this stuff is up in various formats at the Vaults of > Pandius (the official fan site), http://dnd.starflung.com Nice site, but its a bit...overwhelming... for new visitors. I think a "State of the Mystara World 1000 AC" overview combined with a map and description of the mayor nations would be a big help for people new to the whole Mystara setting. Have you considered something like the Verseilles > Treaty against Germany as being in place against the Broken Lands? Have > you considered the political effects of a weakened Darokin on the trade > partnerships in the Known World? No I haven't considered such a thing. My background is still being worked on, and from what I have so far, the Humanoids didnt have an organized nation (they where just a horde) so a treaty with them would have been pointless. Having said that, you just gave me an idea for the rise of a Humanoid nation-state in the Broken Lands that could serve as the cataclyst for the next great war in the fall of 1000 AC. As for the effects of the Great War (800-810 AC) by the time my campagin starts (spring 1000 AC) all that is considered "old history" by the generations that grew up after the war. Except by the Elves and Dwarves naturaly. All the devestated nations had recovered and there was peace in the world , and the state of world affairs is pretty much as it is in the Gazeteers circa 1000 AC (with some adjustments of course). For example the Elves and Dwarves signed a peace treaty in 815 AC and establish a joint fortress on the west side of the Blackhills north of Alfheim. More ideas to come.... But yes, there is a bit of a timing problem with the Ww/oM, GC Bombardment, and explained loss in the Council. My biggest beef with all this is that Alphatia seemed targeted for these losses in mages. Whereas other Mystaran nations seem unaffected by the Ww/oM. But I digress. I never got my actual campaign up to Wrath and haven't had anything to do with the Net Almanac in some time. So I am out of the loop, so to speak. Anyway, Herve does a good job sticking up for Alphatian interests while catering to...well the non-Alphatian sects. A bit miffed about what my former Almanac charges are going through, but I can't say anything. They are not mine anymore. Anyway, I'll await the events before making any complaints LOL. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 14:42:35 EST From: Alex Benson Subject: Re: Elven battle losses I think that the Alfheim and Darokin Gazs both mention elven superiority when they fight amid the forests. Take themn out of that forest and they are at a supreme disadvantage. James still on the MML? He use to handle the Armies stuff. He might have some ideas on modifiers for elves operating outside of their native forest and outside of forests in general. Man-oh-man, have I been away for a long time. Also, elven tactics may be different. The ALfheim Gaz addresses this somewhat. Elves IMO are one of those force types that are highly trianed and capable. However, in an attrition type war they lose. Sort of like the Germans in WW1 and WW2. Or like what I tried to present with my Randel and Veroth troops. Anyway, except for the Shadow Elves, elves breed slowly. Some might even say they are barely able to maintain their numbers. War, in general, should be a last ditch effort for elves. Preferably they should wage war only in defense. Elves are not pointy eared humans and should not be played as such. Elves shouldn't throw themselves in petty wars, especially "human wars". IMO they are on a different level; they are to humans as humans are to humanoids. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 14:54:50 EST From: Alex Benson Subject: Re: Herve...MA Events BTW Herve, any idea when the events are going to be released. I have been out of the Mystaran Loop for a while (real life stuff). I may have missed a projected Event Date though. It's weird not being involved in the Almanac. It will be interesting to read it as a normal reader instead of a contributor and just glad the ordeal is over. While I am at it, howabout a bit of applause for Herve, Geoff, and the rest of the Almanac folks. That's a tough job to tackle. I'd still like to do an expose on the Almanac to let the readership know the effort that goes into this thing every year. Plus the development process has almost as many twists and turns, rivalries, hostility, and butt kissing as the events themselves. I suspect the Torpin has just been rewritten to become a luxury bordello. Just joking of course. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 15:03:33 EST From: Alex Benson Subject: Re: Mystara PS Project Restarted Back from a real life interuption, I have restarted the Fiends in Glantri campaign setting. The basics of this project were established and worked out. However, my delay has given me time to rethink some portions...more revisions. Basically, it will see a change in overall role and purpose of the visit to Glantri. IMO it will be a bit more fluid this way and be more akin to the general teifling mindset. That's the purpose in this thing, to offer a stand alone campaign with PS creatures in the Mystaran Setting. Also, since it is PS and involves fiends, the subject matter is a bit adult oriented. Anyway, no ETA on its completion. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 12 Feb 2002 to 13 Feb 2002 (#2002-44) ***************************************************************
