Some > dwarves have been known to live as long as 275 years. > Dwarves divide their life into 50 year periods: IMC I use longer lifespan for my dwarves, up to 400 years old (based on the Complete Book of Dwarves). I use the same divisions of life periods, but I break them into 100 year intervals. Also, unlike some RPGs where dwarves are a declining race, I have them as still growing in numbers. They have a very low natural birth rate, but due to heavy use of clerical magic dwarven females tend to be more fertile among the larger clans thanks to their priest. (Who worship a goddess of Birth and Rebirth) > Veneration > This is the last stage of a dwarf’s life. They are > treated with respect and are not expected to do > anything. Typically, they go on working or teaching, > when they become too old to perform such tasks, they > usually dwindle away and die. A variation of this is that dwarves don't die of old age. IMC, when a dwarf knows that he is terminally Ill and that no clerical magic can heal him and he can no longer work (might as well be dead ), he decides to join the military as an "Old Beard". This is a special status in the dwarven military in which the selected dwarf is given the finest arms and armor and is chosen to lead an assault against a heavily defended enemy leader. Since this dwarf is seeking his death, he goes into combat expecting to die and plans on taking down as much enemies as he can. Instead of dying in a bed, he dies on the battlefield and (hopefully) is remembered for his valor. Dwarves worship Kagyar, the Artisan. Kagyar created > the dwarven race and he is revered as the chief patron > of dwarves in the Known World. I would add a bit more info on what Kagyars "areas of interest are". Id include mention of traditional dwarven interests like Mining, Warfare and artistic creations. Some other things I would add to your dwarven overview is a summary of their military capabilities, their outlook towards other races, and their technological achievements. Especially since I intend to introduce airships and have the PCs flying all over the globe in due time. Thus any information I can get on a global basis is very helpful. I do not need to know every village and leader in a geographical area, but it helps if I know what are the dominants races, cultures and nations on a global/continent level. It also helps to have an idea where I can locate interesting races that I want to include in my game which are definitely "non-standard". The PWA is helpful, just a bit dense at times. I see your point and I agree that dwarves don't normally make cheap things on a mass scale as it offends their artistic pride. Yet the dwarves are also a very practical minded race and have a good grasp when shear efficiency outweighs any artistic concern. Looking at it from a military standpoint, which is better: 1- 1,000 cheap simple non-artistic one shot bolters that can be given to the bulk of the army , or 2- 100 expensive complex artistic reusable bolters that can be given to only a select few of the army? Or for another viewpoint, which will save more dwarven lives and do more damage to the enemy? Of course, these dwarves are not blind to the limitations of the Bolter, and thus they combine their use with a much more complex, efficient and reusable weapon which is the dwarven crossbow (which is usually a work of art). Keeping that in mind, the bolter is intentionally keep simple and cheap, not because the dwarves cant make it more complex and reusable , but because that effort, time, skill and resources is better spent on making more efficient crossbows instead. > Thanks for the info. Here's an idea, not to sound arrogant or cocky, by why not try to imagine what Mystara would be Like 100 years later, in 1100 A.C., Within 100 years, Europe when from the renaissance in the 1400s to the Age of Exploration and Mercantilism. in the 1500s, given that idea, which nation would survive, which would grow dominant, could it be an empire or an alliance of nations that will survive the next hundred years? Would nations like Thyatis be able to create a great skyship navy, or will countries, like Karameikos, Darokin or Glantri be able to create skyships of their own, be they magical (Like Glantri is mainly built on) or Heat driven(such as Hot Air Balloons which could be made possble by rich nations like Darokin or Glantri.) Who might be the first to create Arquebuses that use a non-cinnabryl version of black powder, will it be the dwarves of Thyatis, or Rockhome? This could be interesting to find out.by some of you might think? --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Try FREE Yahoo! Significant changes such as the end of Thyatis and the rebirth of Traladara is just the beginning. I am also running a campaign set in 2002 AY (hehe) and everything is happening as per Wrath of the Immortals. The major PC in the first mentioned campaign lives 200 miles away from me now so we don't get to play as often as we would like. He is coming down this weekend and we are gonna kick some serious Hulean butt :) in the year 1230 of course ;) Multizar the Mage > From: Jordi Castille > Reply-To: Mystara RPG Discussion > To: MYSTARA-L@ORACLE.WIZARDS.COM > Subject: Re: [MYSTARA] D&D Mystara Gazetteers > Date: Thu, 7 Mar 2002 22:03:28 -0800 > > >The scope of my campaign is World Wide.
