I was thinking about the sea merchant option, but IMC it simply isn't viable. Other seatrading nations pose too big an obstacle, especially since during the war they were able to capture most of the markets from the Darokinians. Of course Darokin will try to revitalise the sea trade, but it won't work alone. As I indicated in my earlier post, changing your coinage is wrought with problems: 1) Many people will simply hide their old coins, or have them melted into bars and hide them, since they don't have trust in the new coinage. 2) The Darokin state needs some substantial backing for the new coinage, to show that the stamp on the coin represents something more than just the metal value of the coin. 3) The present Darokinian government lacks the coercive powers for such an endeavour. I decided that IMC the Darokinian system of government will change after the war. There is almost a coup. (This is still all on planning stage, since the PCs still have to win the Legion of Doom and defeat Hosadus.) When/if the PCs return to Darokin, there will be a large peace conference, at the beginning of which the remaining Guilds and the military (which gained a lot of power during the war) announce that Darokin will create a Senate to replace the old Council. Of course many of meritocrats will retain much of their power, since thay can buy the seat of Senator. But the most striking change is that many military high officials get Senatorship too! The new senate announces that all wages and prices will be frozen to their current level. It also announces that the old daros will be replaced by a new coinage (hey, any suggestions for the name of the currency). The new Speaksman of the Senate will be the "General Winter" guy of the X10 module, whom the PCs have grown quite attached to. He is given extraordinary powers to supervise the transitionary period. Hoarding of old coins will be punished severely, as will be attempts to speculate on property. (Of course nobody knows that the general and his cronies happened to buy large tracts of land with their old daros.) The state will still need a lot of valid money to make this work. All the more so, since there is a lot of rebuilding to do. One way they are able to gain money is that Selenica is becoming a free city. In "my" Nomad War the Ylari were able to conquer Selenica, but the city was later on freed mainly by the elves, dwarves and the Karameikans. The city council with these allies went on and also occupied the Ust-Urt Valley - why? To protect their trading interests, since Thyatis has occupied Ylaruam. They didn't want the Thyatians to control the northern trading route. This hatchling Selenican Trading League is pouring a lot of money in to buy the city free from Darokin. Ordinarily Darokin wouldn't agree, but now they have no chance. How does this sound? Akesoli becomes a bandit town, with all of Darokin's remaining forces trying to rebuild the center, much of the border communities are left to fight on their own. Corrunglain is left pretty much like Ardelphia, but with the forts nearby and a Glantrian Expeditionary force, Corrunglain is brought back in as a seat of power in the north (with a few major alliances with Glantri). The 2 ports that Darokin have are saved, but are kept under the protection of Minrothad, but much to the dismay of Minrothad, not much product is being brought down to be traded. Selenica was sacked and looted by the Ylari, but was recaptured by Thyatian forces, who don't leave so easily. Karameikos seeing a great oportunity invest in the rebuilding of Darokin, and so create major alliances for trade and resources. Other Darokin Houses start making secret partnerships with foreign investors to keep them from going bankrupt, while others stay afloat by hiring bandits to strike out at old enemies as ! they invest in newer routes in old territories. Since this was pre-Wrath, there was no SE invasion, the players were mostly elves, while they let the rest of the world go to waste; they created a stronger elven nation. Early in the pre-war, the elves gave Darokin an ultimatum to clean out the orcs in the surrounding areas of Alfheim. Since the Darokins could not, the elves did, and with the help of the SE's. Several players were veterans of CM9, and one of the players researched many of the same magics that were used for the creation of the great trees in Alfheim. Sacrificing his life, he created a couple more good and bad magical points. (Orcs Death, Mirror Swamp, Dwarven Bane and Banshee Canyon). In all these areas were created to house their Shadow Elf brothers, and since that space was not large enough, several clans broke off and settled in large lava caverns north in Glantri (bordering Boldavia and Ethengar). While several tried to settle in Dwarven and Orcish ! territories to the north and east of Alfheim, the SE's that settled in the Orcish areas fared much better than their eastern brethren, as the orcs were much thinner in numbers than the dwarves. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 15:50:42 -0800 From: Darth Darknerd Subject: Need Help with plot dev for Radu House. I am running a campaign based around the three houses: Tornescu, Radu, and Vorloi. I need some ideas for further plot development with Radu/Veild-Society. One of the PCs is related to the noble family. When there was a riot (started by Veiled Society), that PC paniced and slaughtered a lot of the peasants. The position of the royal family is that he defended himself, but obviously this was not the case, and obviously the Radu family would want to exploit that. But how, and how will the Radu family gain? Though, the Radu likes to pit others against each other, so that somehow the Radu family can profit. How can Radu profit from villianizing the relently slaughter of peasants and/or the noble Thyatian's reaction towards this? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
