Thanks for pointing out some of these consequences. I hadn't even thought of that. Milder climate in the north of the Sind Desert would be an effect that would happen gradually. However, like you say, the Desert Master would definately not be happy. Also, this would but Alfheim closer to the Borean Valley, where all the Humanoids were originally created. This place is bound to ve of Mordor-esque proportions... This focus the attention on other regions than the ones generally picked by mystaran developpers, leading us to develop some nice micro civilizations that could or could not be assimilated by the elves. Remenber also that designing a new capital and building it is one of the requirement for anyone trying to reach immortality on the path of the Dynast ( as seen on the WotI) and since alfheim city is lost to the elves, well they have to start all over again, so why not in a secluded and remote region, yet not too far from Alfheim and Wendar. The mountains in the south shall then become a buffer zone between the adri varma and Aengmor . It's even ironic to see the humanoids of the broken lands in that role. I have always thought that this plateau could have been better used. With Glantri nor very far it will unlikely be picked by any would-be elven Parangon for the duels with pure magic users would likely claim his/her life. That's why i think that this ordeal of building a nation from scratch, yet helped by the Alfheim experience, could be one of the tasks a Dynast could have to do. I have always been surprised to see that there were very few (if not none) elves to try the Dynast path although they have the longest lifespans.. If you stick with this ideas, just ask me for my maps of the region, i am not sure that i have published them on my site already. I am very interested in this project. Thibault Sarlat. ICQ 16622177. It is fairly reminiscent of Fantasy Empires (but done the way it should have been done). Command a pretender god (you), generate commanders, armies, research spells, etc... For those of you interested in such things I suggest you check it out. http://www.illwinter.com/dom2/index.html There is a completely free demo (tech tree and race choices limited, but otherwise it is a complete game), although dl is about 60-70M. It will run on PC, Mac, and Linux. The reason that I mention it here is twofold. First of all I immediatly though of Mystara when playing it. I think it has a decidedly Mystaran feel to it. Some of the races include humans (various flavors), lizardmen, mermen, illithids, giants, elves, and dwarves (and more). The second reason is that in addition to everything that comes with the game, the latest patch allows players to apply mods. In theory we could create a real Mystaran game by modding all of the nations to be Mystaran! If anyone on the list checks this out (or you already have the game), please let me know what you think. Maybe we can get a Mystaran war going... ===== Rule #85. I will not use any plan in which the final step is horribly complicated, e.g. "Align the 12 Stones of Power on the sacred altar then activate the medallion at the moment of total eclipse." Instead it will be more along the lines of "Push the button." from "A Guide to Becoming an Evil Overlord" by Peter Anspach __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! After AC1010, I would think the elves start a mass exodus from the eastern side of Brun and return to the West. Another thing to ponder on (ala LoTR), elves always faced their maps and compass points towards the West (N stood for Numen, West). Elves from Alfheim would probably still hold some kind of inclination of their western realms, so would Alfheim Elvish maps be pointing towards the west, with West on the top portion of the map? This could be an interesting play on adventurers not cultured on how elves make their treasure maps. ------------------------------ End of MYSTARA-L Digest - 11 Mar 2004 to 12 Mar 2004 (#2004-63) ***************************************************************
