Catalogue P38, and fits with their tall dark windowless tower in Xitaqa) I had some other stuff that was based around astrology, but on second thoughts it's probably class specific rather than race specific I was also toying with Keen Senses (as an elf) but that was partly due to my original template being Grey Elves from MM - a Wis bonus roughly equates to that anyway. The only reason I went with 20' was due to the source material, which had them slower moving (though with no rationale for it). I was going to explain it away as part of their Move Silently bonus- they pad very softly and slowly, thus the bonus. But I think I'm in agreement with the change you suggest. > Type: Humanoid (Canine) - being a group of Gnolls, > Kobolds, Flinds, Hutaakans and Lupines This is something I was thinking of implementing as well (to cut down on the excess of Humanoid [x] types). The reason I went with Gnoll, rather than Canine was because the Gnoll entry has established the Humanoid {Gnoll) type, so I just went with that. One thing to note: In the recent Dragon conversion of the Lupins, they decided to make them Monstrous Humanoids rather than Humanoids, which I'm of mixed opinion about. Frankly, I think the Gnoll should have been made a Monstrous Humanoid (particularly given the illustration, where it has animal-like feet and legs). Since the decision was made to make them Humanoid (Gnoll), though, I feel that the Hutaaka and Lupins should follow suit and fit the same mold. Guess it just depends on how people like them in their campaigns. > Darkvision 60' (which is in C. Catalogue P38, and > fits with their tall dark windowless tower in Xitaqa) Again, something else I went back and forth on. Ultimately, they didn't seem all that much like underground dwellers to me, so I went with Low-Light Vision (like elves, who also had infravision). On further reflection though, I could see darkvision. As you mention, they do live in windowless, dark places. Add to that their stealth abilities- they might be largely nocturnal creatures. I could go with Darkvision. > I was also toying with Keen Senses (as an elf) but > that was partly due to my original template being > Grey Elves from MM - a Wis bonus roughly equates to > that anyway. It does a little bit, yeah. My conversion was based around the Creature Catalog entry, the Hollow World entry, and the Mystara Monstrous Compendium, which didn't mention anything about those. Since Gnolls aren't given any sort of scent ability or anything, either, I felt it was okay to skimp. Anyway, this is cool and helpful. We seem to be coming to a consensus here. Now we just need to flesh out the rest of the entry with descriptive stuff. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jan 2005 02:12:39 -0000 From: Jon Cole Subject: Re: Hutaaka > > One thing to note: In the recent Dragon conversion of > the Lupins, they decided to make them Monstrous > Humanoids rather than Humanoids, which I'm of mixed > opinion about. Anyway, that all gives me what I need to befuddle my players with Hutaaka for a while, if anything interesting arises, I'll post it back here. That said, are there any other relevant races that have been detailed lying about the place?
