They worked =20 very well in reducing tensions and focusing the kids on cooperation. - In our university (Tampere, Finland), one of the most successful =20 (when it comes to getting grants) departments focuses on game studies, =20 also rpg. There has been already 1 PhD in Finland on theory of rpg =20 gaming. - Many groups, live and tabletop, have been studying moral and =20 political conflicts by using rpgs. One example was an extensive live =20 session on Finnish Civil War a couple of years ago. I once read an =20 article of a group that studied racistic conflicts with a rpg system =20 designed to do just that. (This is a bit too straightforward for me, I =20 prefer "alienating" or allegorical ways of doing this. But it is still =20 a good argument on the potential virtues of gaming.) Of course a lot of the gaming is pure entertainment and hanging out =20 with friends - as it bloody well should be - but I know my English =20 would never have developed so early without me deciphering D&D manuals =20 so early. And I'd now much less about history if I hadn't played =20 H=E2rnmaster for so long. Education is at its best when it isn't forced. I'm only listing a couple of books for now, but the rest will come over time. Just do a search for my name, or look up Keep on the Borderlands to find my listings. I invite all who are interested to check them out. I have tried, in my descriptions, to be as accurate as possible.
