So, I'm looking for 4 to 6 players, since the old group is no more. I'd like to explore some of my current interests in Mystara (the Savage Coast, Ylaruam or North-Eastern Brun, e.g.), though the setting would be negotiable. The rules set would nominally be AD&D2e, though as in all PbeM, the management would be mostly freeform. OD&D characters could be used as well (especially in case of Player Creatures), and 3e characters could be acceptable as well. Ok, I'll write a mail with the details to all the interested people. I've also reached the players cap right now (with Kar, Joe and Pat, as well as a few other people who have written on the MMB), so I'm sorry, but I'll not be able to accept more players. Them being respectively twisted elves and treants is only one hypothesis. What is sure is that their "creator" was Melkor but that since only Iluvatar had the power to instill life and full sentience, Melkor had to use already existing material and made his pawn in derision of Illuvatar children (elves) and the treants. Yet this explanation can work with the first hypothesis. And surely since there is still illuvatar life spark in the Orcs, having elves destroy corrupted offspring (some would say degenerated) as suggested by Pat of their own race was a very dark deed by Melkor (maybe the darkest). The troll situation is more tricky since I don't remember anywhere any mention of them reproducing themselves (whereas the treants used to breed offsprings). It is highly likely that the trolls were the result of magical crossbreeding and dark powers. I only recall the fact that Olog haï were Sauron creation (a sort of troll version 2 if you know what i mean), just like Uruk Hai were the result of Saruman evil deeds. It is to be noted that Melkor, Sauron and Saruman were all once taught by Aule, who also "created" his own children that is the Dwarves. Maybe this was part of Aule teaching to manipulate matter and make it partly living. Add it a little perversion and a propension do do evil, and you get the orcs and the trolls. Tolkien version of orcs and troll is unilateral and depict them as being inherently evil. But there is much to debate here too. and this is not the place. Thanks anyway to allow us to dig in our Tolkiennesque memories, this was a pleasant flashback. Thibault Sarlat Lorsque le bûcheron pénétra dans la forêt avec sa hache, les arbres se dirent : "Ne nous inquiétons pas, le manche est des notres". When the logger entered the forest with his axe, the trees thought "There is no worries to have, the handle is one of us" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pat Taylor" To: Sent: Thursday, May 11, 2006 1:40 AM Subject: [MYSTARA] orcs and inherent evil > I agree thinking and point of view is one of the wonderful aspects of > Mystara.
