The PCs are to lead a force of dwarves to retake the fort but I would prefer to do it in a commando style session instead of a big battle including hundreds of dwarves and probably a long siege. Also this is probably what the players are going to do anyway. Do you have any suggestions on how to run such a commando operation? And do you know of any maps that I could base the layout of the fort on? I'd think that the dwarves have some pretty heavy defenses plus a well thought-out layout of their forts. There are some pretty decent layouts in the "Dwarves of Rockhome" for dwarven forts and quite nice maps in the Wizards of the coast website for download - I have used many of them. One thing though - if you think of doing a commando run you are up to a task as you need to plan the scenario, locations and such. To give you some food for thought, think if: - The opposition has had some time to prepare (captured starving beasts, traps and alarm systems in the fort) - Your players want to try to get in by cunning maybe using disguise (cloak and dagger to kill the commander before alarm goes off) - Maybe your team tries to get in as commando operation at the same time as the major assault is taken and by certain times certain events will take place - depending on the success of the adventuring party - There could be some old thing that is not generally known about the fortress that...gates of Moria...
