According to the book Obsidian Oracle, Sa'ram and Jo'orsh were a pair of dwarves who stole the Dark Lens after Borys was turned into the Dragon of Tyr. They then became the first giants. That was all well and good. Then the Revised Setting came out and names Dregoth as Ravager of Giants, the 3rd champion of Rajaat. So then we have one of the inconsistencies the Dark Sun setting was known for. Anyhow, I was wondering how everyone handled this issue. Here is my take on the situation. I think that if the dark lens changed them into giants, they were simply turned into the first of a new subspecies of giant, the beasthead and desert, that inhabit the islands in the Sea of Silt. Since it is known that Dregoth did not accomplish his task of destroying the giants, as is evidenced by the other species, plains and crag, this seemed the most logical explanation to me. What do you all think?

Good discussion, I do find it interesting that no one had the thought that maybe the Taraskir was a beast-head giant merely because he was Giant (as in very large) and had a beasthead (in this case the head of a lion). Actually, Hammanu fits that description in his public appearance and it would make prefect sense if in a legend or history, he was described as a Beast-Head Giant. There are plenty of ways that a powerful ruler could obtain great size and and unusual appearance .

Of course he might have been a Giant in earnest, but that would in no way preclude him from gaining some power of illusion or shapechanging to aquire a beasthead in addition to the magical process that was agreed upon in the discussion.

Sorry, just my two cents

No wonder there was so much confusion, it most of it was taken from the mouths of Giants with the intellect of 6 year-olds. Maybe this will teach people not to take the words of Giants literally :P

Thanks Pennarin for point me to the other thread. I would not have posted the question if I knew it had already been raised. I guess I'll have to sift through the pages of old posts to see if other questions I have been thinking about have already been discussed. A working search feature would make things easier though.
