In the Beastiary of Krynn, it mentions that mistreated Children of the Sea grow up to become an Accantus.

Is this a special template or special set of abilities (ie. squid mutant child of the sea) or does this merely refer to a child of the sea that has severe emotional problems (ie. a tendancy towards evil).

As you have read an Accantus is a child who has been mistreated or abadoned by their surface family and becomes an Accantus. Now while it can be infred that an Accantus is different (physical) than other Children of the Sea, this is not necesarily the case. An Acantus can be just a normal Child of teh Sea who is essentially a "dark elf", an outcast if you will. They might take out their anger not on just their surface family but on any other surface dwellers that get in their way. This would raise resentment and anger toward children of the sea in that area (more than likely the area where the child was born and hence where other children of the sea live). As child of the sea rely on surface dwellers to reproduce, this would present a serious hindrence to the future of the race (at least in that area). And therefore other children hunt down the Acantus.

Now this is all speculation because the bestiary does not go into exactly what an Acantus is, but this is my humble opinion.

I did actually write up the accantus for the Bestiary but it was cut for space. It's a template applied to a child of the sea which allows the summoning of a Small water elemental once a day, and transformation into a liquid form (with various other benefits associated with that). There's a chance that this will see publication at some point, along with creatures like the skyfisher, cave lord, jarak-sinn, or yaggol (all of which were also cut) but I couldn't tell you when.

Cheers,
Cam

Okay, do they have abilities to affect weather or water (ie. to make themselves into a sort of manifestation of the "wrath of the sea")? In other words, can they swamp ships with waves or summon storms?

Did we see one of these in Blades of the Tiger?

I'll let you know once I've read the book.
