I'm looking at general advice, some "plug and play" articles whihc can be dropped into an existing campaign and some campaign-specific articles. The first few issues will be dedicated to establishing a Old-School campaign with features on many of the non-supported game worlds - borad overviews, what makes them different from both sides of the DM screen, etc. Now, this does grate against my dislike for electronic format of any magazine - my comments about the distribution of both Dungeon and Dragon reflect this. However, as I don;t have a budget to dedicate to this, physical distribution is a problem. My aim is to produce a regular, polished quality product whihc will be able to provide a focus for the community and provide discussion points and a breeding ground for new ideas. I'm not interested in any "superiority of editions" articles or the like. However, I can;t produce this myself. The very notion that I can write brilliant material about all game worlds exceeds the arrogance even I've been accused of. :D So, what I need are people with article ideas, who can work to deadlines and write well on a range of subjects to give the ezine a diverse feel. Also, I need feedback from all of you about what sorts of material you'd like covered. The ezine will be the first step. Should this prove to be successful, I'm planning a foray into the land of podcasting - but that is a long-term project. I'd welcome any constructive ideas or genuine offers of assistance. I know it is possible, and I know the talent is here. For those of you who are ahppy to just read (I need you too), stay tuned. Thanks in advance. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Bujio Date : 04-13-08 01:49 PM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine I'd love to help, absolutely. It wouldn't be a problem to talk about my favorite stuff. I'd even use my website to help promote the ezine. Since you have concerns about electronic format, I could suggest looking at lulu.com, which offers an option for publishing things as they are bought. You could hypothetically put the ezine up in electronic format, and then anyone who wanted to could purchase hardcopies of it. The best part of it is you wouldn't have to pay for the publishing. Now as for the legality of it...I'm not sure. But if it's purely electronic I'd sure love to contribute to the gaming experience. :) My top 3 settings are Dragonlance, Spelljammer, and Planescape. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Ferns Date : 04-13-08 04:06 PM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine Great idea! I will be looking forward to be reading all about different players experience with oop-products, wether it be dragonlance, f-r, dark sun etc. I will for sure be a steady reader and promote it for all whom i know here in little Denmark. Whats its name going to be? oopzine perhaps? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : True_Atlantean Date : 04-14-08 06:11 AM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine I'd love to help, absolutely. Neat. I'll have some more definate guidelines in the very near future. As for the legalities, I have sent my area Customer Service Rep an e-mail and will be following this up in the next week. Whilst most gaming companies allow 'fair use' of their intellectual property (gaming companies usually extend this to fan-based owrks), I'd like something in writing. I'll post again as soon as I have an answer. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : True_Atlantean Date : 04-14-08 06:14 AM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine Great idea! I've recently started a quarterly ezine dedicated to the world of Warmachine (I look after the RPG side) and we've found that tracking the trail of "word of email" is fascinating. Thanks to this phenomena, we have had over 600 downloads in the first two weeks and lots of feedback (most of it very positive). We've taken a lot on board for issue two, which is due in a month (the deadlines, the deadlines...) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Mock26 Date : 04-19-08 02:20 PM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine How about a series detailing a new campaign area of the Forgotten Realms? I am currently (casually) working at taking one of the unmapped smaller continents and populating it with cities and kingdoms and such. My plan is to ultimately do a smaller version of the "Tour of the Realms" that is in the Forgotten Realms boxed set and for at least a couple cities in each kingdom and for a few of the independant cities I'll be doing a write-up of each city in the same format as used in the old Forgetten Realms Adventures book from the 2nd edition days. I'd gladly share this info with your e-zine. PS How about The ODDzine (or OD(n)Dzine)? It could stand for Old Dungeons and Dragons. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : True_Atlantean Date : 05-01-08 06:15 AM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine How about a series detailing a new campaign area of the Forgotten Realms? Mock, I'd be happy to entertain the idea of one of these articles form you and see how it goes. At this point, it has unfortunately been put on the back-burner until June; when work settles down again. I;d prefer to devote time into having the issues of high-quality, regular content, rather than a stacatto-publishing approach. I can achieve this, just not at the moment. As for the name, it does have promise (putting the odd back into ODD!). I may just run a comp to see if I can get an evocative name for the mag. I was thinking Clarion Call or something that conjures up a call to arms and adventure, but I need it to sound like a role-playing, not a miniatures wargaming title. Tough all round. I'll be in contact. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Extempus Date : 05-01-08 07:15 AM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine After almost 27 years of play, perhaps I have something to contribute... my main area of interest is Greyhawk, but we have certainly done many different things over the years that may be of interest... It is based on an Eastern European flavor. I would be happy to occasionally submit articles to incorporate Eastern European flavor into the world (i.e. a Cossack fighter or ranger kit... or both!). Also I would be happy to introduce area specific gear, notes etc. Can't do it all the time, but the occasional article kind of like the old articles from the early Dragon Magazines (Rhino Armor, Tiger Claws for example) I would be happy to add. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Mock26 Date : 05-06-08 03:29 AM Thread Title : Re: New Ezine I will be running a 1st Edition AD&D event at GenCon this August.
