Simple enough:

Where and What?

;)

Apparently, an ex-gladiator named Vorr got his hands on the Scorcher in Cromlin after it was found in the belly of a Silt Horror in the 189th King's Age. After a short run as local warlord, he was presumably killed by a Nightmare Beast in what is called the Valley of Trevain (Official Timeline and Psionic Artifacts of Athas).

Is that valley described anywhere? If not, I have a few interesting ideas involving a canyon trip, ruins, sleep deprived mindfolk and a NASTY Nightmare Beast... ;)

Check out The Ivory Triangle. The map in there has the location.

It's in the northern part of the Black Spine Mountains.

You could also check out Dregoth Ascending part 2 for additional information.

What I would like to know is how the Scorcher got from the lair of the Nightmare Beast in to the lair of the So-ut's! I do not think, but I could be wrong, that there is any information on how or by whom the weapon was moved if it was.

It would be that the Scorcher was left behind when the NB moved out of the area and then the so-ut's moved in and a dude snuck in to get the blade a killed /was killed by one of the creatures.

Any 'official' answers?

It states that the So-uts took up residence long after the nightmare beast abandoned the cave for it's lair.

I would have prefered that the PC's fought the nightmare beast instead of the So-uts

That would have been SWEET- I might have to do that when I run this thing- using the Athasian version that was posted here if said beast is finished- I might have to shake a tree to see if it is.

The So-uts could be kept as a 'primer' to get the PC's ready, they are like big sacks of XP waiting to be plundered- sorry, Order of the Stick moment :D

IIRC someone posted that the So-uts were kinda easy for the group of PC's that went through the playtest

That would have been me. I increased the number of So-uts to 3 and my player's still kick their arses.

What was the composition of the group (number, race, class, level) if I may ask.

If it was that easy, and the final encounter in that section of the adventure, then I will be adding something more, like the nightmare beast to the adventure when I run it.

Thanks for the info.

Hmmm... Thanks for the heads up on Dregoth Ascending Jon. I skimmed through the documents, thinking I'd probably never get to use them (never even attempted to play an epic campaign beofre). I think I'll use some of this to guide my players to the valley. They're just out of Giustenal now.

By the way:

- Set of D&D dice: 8$ CAD
- Near-mint Condition City by the Silt Sea Box Set from ebay: 30$ USD
- seeing the look on your players faces when the silt paraelemental told them the Scorcher had been carried away to Cromlin, after coming through there to reach Giustenal, and spending several days exploring the ruins, fighting amongst themselves because of the Caller's delusions, avoiding poisonous snakes, confronting dray templars, fending off razorwings and horrors while keeping themselves out of the silt, all for nothing... Priceless! :D

Well, the way things are going, the Heroes of Dregoth Ascending might have a nasty surprise when they manage to defeats those ravagers only to realise the Scorcher has been retrieved by my players a few years earlier... ;)

Of course, there is still the matter of the Nightmare Beast... Seven 9th to 7th level players + two 7th level NPCs + about a dozen 1st level NPCs against a CR 18 Nightmare Beast... This is gonna be interesting... :D

Hmm... I'll have to figure something out to fit with DA though... I kind of like it when everything I have my do fits with the official turn of events...

Oh well, I'll just have to advance the Nightmare beast a bit, and the sword'll stay right there...

;)

I suppose the orginal Nightmare Beast could have attained undead status to guard the Scorcher. THAT would be fun! :D

I will leave the details to the DS brain trust.

Marines are immune to lightning bolts and flensing strikes- the recruiter told me so when I signed up and we all know military recruiters would never lie! :D
