Hey everyone, I just was wondering, with all the input we have on the Champions and the remaining SK's, has anyone ever thought about who the "heroes" of the Cleansing Wars would have been? I recall a few, like the King of the Elves, and a few dwarves, as well as Windreaver the Troll. Has anyone thought about some others? I have always thought it would be interesting to have one or two either brought back via magic of some sort (I could see this happening, but others may not) or as undead of some sort, as there are meorties and raaigs that are around from those times. It seems that we spend a whole lot of time on these boards coming up with how we want the big bad guys to be (which I love as much as anyone else, and the work so far is great) but we tend to ignore the good guys. I know that the PC's are supposed to be the heroes, and that athas is a dark, nasty, kill you in an instant world, but I think that heroes of old could be great inspiration for the PC's. Plus, how great would it be if an undead gnome hero of long ago came after a party that was working for Nibenay or something? Anyway, any ideas guys? :D

Wow! great idea. I hadn't ever given that much thought. So what is the full tally of heros?

Dwarves:
Rkard, last of the Kemolok Kings
The two Dwarven Knights that stole the Dark Lens... I can't remember their names right now.

Elves:
Elven King, was he ever named
Corannu Starracer, Leader of the elven flight

The Wind Mages, do we have any names or stories?
The Troll leader, Windreaver

I'm not coming up with a lot.

i LOVE it! let's get it rolling then shall we?

i think the dwarven hereos were Jo'Orsh (sp) and Saram...or something, i probably butchered the spelling...

wasn't the elven king named Alarond, Allaron? er...no...i'm probably confusing that with tolken...Crown of Elves? no...that's something else...

what about the cleansed races? leaders and rulers of them? were the pixies like the standard pixies of other worlds? with a king and queen and a court and such? what about the ogres? were they more like ogre magi or regular ogres? orcs, goblins, kobolds, gnomes, wemics, lizardmen...and more! were gnomes tinkerers or were they different? perhaps some psionic gnome sage or inventor...

i'm going to go dig around in all my source material and fiction...stay tuned! great idea!

1. The valient warriors from each cleansing race that kept up the good fight all throughout their eradication, a few of them we know their story: Coraanu the leader of the elven diaspora, Alaron the last elven king, Rkard the last dwarven king, Jo'orsh and Sa'ram the last dwarven knights, Windreaver the last and greatest of the trolls' chieftains.

2. The preservers that became great resistance fighters during the Preserver Jihad. That includes those last outposts of preservers in the last days of the wars, a few we know of: Dasaraches (the Wind Mages), and Akarakle (Hakaar's forces). There was also Suthera the leader of the preservers when Rajaat declared war on them all.

3. The leaders of Bodach, for insisting on the neutrality of their city with their last breath.

4. Taraskir the giant leader of Giustenal, for defending the sovereignty of his city, and the lives of his citizens, with his own against the onslaught of Dregoth.

5. The Mind Lords, for the difficult choice they made to sacrifice their chances for normal lives, and at the cost of certain liberties for their citizens, so as to keep the latter safe from the wars. Also for the risk they took in making a moral stance against cleansing by saving their own local lizardmen population.

For the Wind Mages/Preservers you've got Haakar, the Master of Akarakle. He's also undead as of FY6 and is fully stat blocked (for 2nd Ed) on page 36 of Book 2, Dragons Crown.

I also recall that a Preserver named Suthera led what was left of the Preservers into hiding after the Jihad against them and started the traditions of the Veiled Alliance. I can't find the reference to him but I'm certain it was in one of the sourcebooks.

For the Giants you've got Taraskiir, the Lion headed Giant King of Giustenal, before Dregoth decided to set up shop there and massacred Taraskiir. There's a fair amount on Taraskiir in City by the Silt Sea. No stats but it is noted that he was a powerful user of the Way. Plus he's the inspiration for the Lion head statues in Tenpugs temple hideaway (Slave Tribes, Black Spine and CbtSS).

**Edit** Found Suthera - he's mentioned on page 19 of Defilers & Preservers. He was the leader of one of the groups of Preservers and was supposed to be the most advanced student of preserving magic. He ordered the remaining preservers to withdraw and go into seclusion when it became clear that the Preservers would fall against Rajaat's Champions

The party I DM actually quested for many years to raise Taraskir from the dead.

If I'd allow one resurrection story to come true on Athas it would be Taraskir. The giant was very colorful, not a real do-gooder but a noble creature nonetheless, probably with a code of honor.

in PP5 there is a little section on page 207 where Rkard the mul is remembering a story about a dwarven king named Thurin, "Who always defeated his enemies by curing the grievious afflictions that had turned them into monsters in the first place. Afterward, the beasts always became either his devoted friends and servants, or they died peacefully, thanking him for releasing them from their eternal agony."

anyway, just thanks to everyone so far on their input. does anyone have any homebrewed guys, i know that there are undead "cleansed" race characters in the dead lands, but anyone got anything else?

My name sake is based on an NPC from my home game who was originally from the Green Age. In life, Duke Harrick Sysane was a retired human bard that was part of a mercenary group called the Minstrels Five shortly before the start of the Cleasing Wars. If you'd like more info I can dig up my old notes and either post or e-mail what I have on him.

I converted Sunray (Forest Maker adventure) for the Guide and came up with a rather vague but inspiring source for its creation, and I imagine a druid or preserver hero would have been chosen to wield it at the time of its creation. Sounds puny, but if you consider, say, a human druid X/spirit incarnate X (remember that PrC anyone?) wielding Sunray, that would make for a powerful champion of the preserver cause.
