So you went with Swashbuckler. I was toying around with the Duelist PrC for him. He would have needed a few levels of Rogue in the beginning then though. (Rog4/Ftr4/Duelist8) Hmmm I could give him Swashbuckler and Duelist, though it is a bit redundant.

I see you advanced him quite a bit. Incidently I put him at CL 15 or 16 too. It seems your build gives him two more feats overall. But Iron Will twice? Is this even allowed? (I.e. do the bonuses stack?) I'd give him Weapon Specialization(Rapier) instead. (In my build he also has Improved Feint, as he gets some sneak attack damage)

Speaking of the Rapier, in RG he has a Rapier of Skewering not Pucturing. (Skewering: ignores magical armour bonuses! For example plate +4 only counts as plate! ) I'm not sure if there is anything similar to the Skewering enchantment in 3E though...

His interest for the arts should imo somehow be translated into some skills. Perhaps some ranks in Profession(art patron) ? And a whole lot in Appraise! He is also noted to be "interested in people, ancient civilizations, scientific curiosities" so that could mandate a few ranks in a few knowledge skills. (Know history and/or arcana(=ancient mysteries?) and/or science/artifice??= engineering?)

I dug around in the internet for a conversion of the Vampiric Regeneration ring and found this:
Vampiric Regeneration Ring

The vampiric regeneration ring is slightly misnamed. This extremely rare ring heals the ring bearer by stealing the life force of others. When in melee combat, the ring will heal the ring bearer by half the amount of damage (rounded down) that the ring bearer inflicts upon another living creature. The ring will never bestow more hit points than the ring bearer’s normal maximum.
The ring will not work on creatures that have never been alive, such as golems. The ring will also not work on the undead and there is a severe side effect should one attempt to harm such a creature while wearing the ring. First, the ring bearer will suffer hit point loss equal to half the damage inflicted on the undead creature. Second, all damage that the ring bearer inflicts is also halved. This ring is usually made of metal and will have a dull black or red coloration to it. Some are also adorned with combat motifs, such as swords, helmets, skulls, etc.
Caster level: 17th; Prerequisites: Forge Ring feat, Energy Drain spell; Market value: 125,000 gp

Granted it is a questionable conversion! I think you should somehow model it using the Vampiric Touch spell! There's also the Weapon of Wrathful Healing enhancement (+3) somewhere in print.

I also found this version of the Bracers by Tom Costa:
Bands of Quickness
The wearer may wear these bands as either bracelets or anklets. When worn as bracelets the wearer receives a +4 competence bonus on initiative checks and gains an extra partial action that involves the use of the hands, arms, and upper body – usually an extra single attack – either before or after his regular action. It is not cumulative with haste. When worn as anklets the wearer receives a +4 haste bonus to AC (he loses this bonus whenever he would lose a dodge bonus) and gains an extra partial action that involves the use of the feet, legs, and lower body – usually an extra single move – either before or after his regular action. It is not cumulative with haste.
Caster Level: 5th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, haste; Market Price 21000 gp. 21Kgp

They're a lot cheaper but not quite as good.

And you missed an interesting bit of equipment: Noble's outfit, broad brimmed hat with peacock's feather! :-)

BTW There's precedent for updating 1E RG characters into 3E: Lassiviren the Dark is a Rog4/Ftr4/Asn7 in Dungeon #114.

Is there any Greyhawl specific background for Valerius? I don't know anything about him.

Thanael, thanks for your input, and thanks for pointing out the Iron Will thing. It cannot be taken more than once, and I have taken your suggestion to replace the extra feat with specialization (rapier). You also make a compelling case for ranks in appraise and a few knowledge skills. As for the rapier of skewering, it seems a bit too powerful to make the cut to 3.5, IMO. It would almost be like a brilliant energy weapon that can hurt constructs and undead. Likewise, I recall the old ring of vampiric regeneration to be a nightmare when worn by a competent fighter!

Well, there isn't any GH-specific info in his background as presented in RG, but I assume that he adventured in GH because he was played by early D&D artist Erol Otus, presumably in games run by Gary Gygax, which would have been set in GH. Perhaps someone with insider info can confirm or deny this?
