Just wanted to let you guys know, the project I have been working on, Darksun MUD, is opening for playtesting alpha stages.

Basically it's all text-based, if you know what MUDs are you'll know what it's about. We're using a heavily-modified version of the Tolkien mud shadows of isildur's codebase, and we're going to have the 7 city-states available for play after Beta is complete.

So if anyone is interested in becoming a playtester for the MUD, we're opening the doors to the world of Athas next week. We're only allowing a certain number of playtesters for alpha and beta, so post on our forums in the Playtester Application section to make sure you get looked at before we run out of spaces.

I know everyone here is an avid fan of Darksun and the Athas world setting, that's why I'm posting here, I want you guys, who have all this knowledge to be testing the world and telling me where it's wrong and right. I'm building Urik and Tyr and they will be done in a week or so. You'll find the links you need below.

darksun.genesismuds.com port 4500 This is how you connect to the game itself, you need to use a client that allows connecting to remote servers, such as Telnet, zMud, gMud, if you do a little searching you will find there are tons of them out there, I personally recommend zMud.

http://www.darksunkings.com Our homepage, with extensive docs.

http://www.darksunkings.com/phpBB2 The forums, you need to post here to become a playtester. HOWEVER, do note you cannot register at the forums, you need to login to the MUD and create an account using our automated account system. That will in turn create your forum login, to keep things organized we run them off the same database.

And that's all I have, thanks for reading and I hope I get some good Athasians to come test my game for me. Thanks.

That's a good initiative, but...

- Are you aware of the existence of the armageddon RPI MUD ? It's almost completly inspired by Dark Sun, even if the world isn't the same. Or maybe there's stuff you don't like in Argmageddon ?
- Isn't it hard to play a new MUD with 7 different cities ? It must be hard to meet other PCs if you are few and the area to cover is so big...

I find the first response to this to be rather ironic.

That sounds awesome, Delerak! Maybe I'll swing by sometime.

Thanks Teriyaki.

Anyway, I don't think the post about Armageddon even deserves a response, regardless, I have a rocky history at the mud, and it holds no sway over why I started Darksun MUD, period.

I just love the campaign. And hope all those thousands of guys who used to play it tabletop years ago can enjoy a more advanced, even funner version of the setting.

Cheers,

About the cities. We're opening with Urik and Tyr. We're going to open cities slowly as players voice their motivation to play in them.

Right now the other cities are being built, it doesn't mean they will be open for play unless a solid chunk 20% at least of the playerbase desires to play in one.

Also, on cities. What happens on the game happens, if a city-state realistically would be destroyed by a rival, it might happen. Players will decide whether this happens or not..

I'm going to leak a bit of into here, and say that Uriks Army will be open from beta on, and that players are going to be able to rise up to ranks during one of the wars we have planned. Even High Templar if they play their cards right in game.

It's all about roleplaying, and realism. So it's not unrealistic for a strong player to rise to the highest position of power in a city (high templar). And even interact with the sorcerer-king, a very mortal, very killable character. However unlikely it is, it's possible. And that is what is going to make the MUD so fun to play, endless posibilities.

Thanks for the answers. I'm sorry if my previous post looked a bit blunt ; I must have rolled a natural 1 on my Diplomacy check.

It's cool man. I have a shaky history with armageddon mud, so it doesn't surprise me that people bring it up.

Also, today is the day to put in applications if you want to playtest, I'll be accepting characters, but you need to post a little background info on our forums first. And to do that you need to make an account via the MUD. (they are synched together).

Thanks,
