We have one. One party has come upon a prison of Zagyg. This item has never seen an offensive use, but it has been used plenty as a defensive item. One well protected party member keeps the item and they of course know the histories of everyone in the party. Say someone in the party is in serious trouble. Surrounded and about to go down or is helpless. This character with the cage just zaps the troubled character into the cage and then lets them out when it is safe. Since the character with the cage is a cleric, they have even healed them right up and sent them back into the fray. The only offensive use is as a bungee for a mage. You know how a mage would like to get into a perfect position to cast a spell, but doesn't want to get away from the protection the party offers. This way the mage can dimension door into postion, cast the spell, and be brought back to the party by the prison. I have told you our creative use for a magic item. What is yours? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Thailfi Date : 11-04-03 09:00 AM Well, I will try again. In the Planescape setting most every plane of existence that you visit has special rules about what spells can and cannot be cast. Without a spell key or power key you probably won't even be able to cast even the simplest healing spells, unless..... You have a portable hole. In the portable hole description it says that opening it creates a small pocket plane. Have a cleric climb in with the person he/she wishes to heal and voila!, they are both on a plane with no restrictions on what spells can and cannot be cast without being nulified or changed dramatically. Heal, climb out, and continue adventuring as normal. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Redthorne Date : 11-04-03 09:44 AM Thread Title : magic items The same can be said for a Bag of Holding. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : dogstar Date : 11-04-03 10:13 AM Sphere on Annihilation - Draining Rivers and Lakes Girdle of Femminimity - Classic Switched Clothing Joke Staff of Withering - Dragon Maturing device Portable Hole - Pit trap (cover with run) Dwalf Hammer (Returning) - tie a rope to it and throw it in an arc around a target you want to string a rope around.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Sarnack Matai' Date : 11-15-03 01:17 PM A ring of telekinesis makes a handy dandy mass driver. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : DM Zoc Date : 11-15-03 01:29 PM We never really get magical items; the best we've done so far is the portable hole-pit trap idea. The difference here is that I was originally using the hole as a means of carrying around great amouts of water; when it was determined that the water wouldn't be needed for drinking, the powerful wizard used it to take a bath. The pit trap worked, though, but we really had no idea what to do with an extra-dimensional space full of soaking mummies; I was hoping that they were water-soluble, but they just kept trying to get out every week we checked on them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Redthorne Date : 11-17-03 11:12 AM Thread Title : interesting uses The "tenser's floating disc" spell can provide plenty of interesting and humorous twists. For example, a low level wizard can cast light on a small object (a rock), place the rock on the tenser's floating disc, then maneuver the disc ahead of the party lighting the way ahead like a floating lantern. Do the same with silence 15' radius, etc... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : DM Zoc Date : 11-17-03 12:49 PM Again with the mummies: mummies are one of very few critters that require magical (but not +1 or better) weapons to hit. Let's just say we put our entire stockpile of continually-lit stones to good use. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Ars Loqui Date : 11-17-03 10:07 PM A player of mine, a 4th-level half-elven pyromancer, has the tendency to store corpses/unconscious/bound and gagged persons in his Bag of Holding in order to make traveling long distances with them too much of a hassle. Actually, this happens quite frequently... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
