The thing I miss most with 2e is the clerical spheres; I consider it a great shame that it was replaced with Domains (although I admit that balancing spheres and special abilities could be a bugger). So I've been thinking about skipping Domains entirely and re-introduce spheres of access. 4 questions: 1) Has anyone tried this? 2) What to do with paladin- and ranger-specific spells? Making ranger- and paladin- spheres seems a tad arbitrary, while putting them into the Combat sphere (for example) gives clerics potential access to P/R-specific spells. 3) Chaos and Law spheres make sense - what about Good and Evil spheres? For some reason 2e never took that step, but it would seem a logical extension. Such spheres would, of course, be severely limited in extent, but hardly more so than the Astral sphere. 4) Level differences. In 3e some spells have different levels depending on whether you get them as Druid or Cleric (for example). Indeed, this is key to the Paladin and Ranger spells, which sometimes have much lower level than their standard counterparts (the argument for this is somewhat contradictory, but never mind). Can this be properly handled by Spheres? FYI, I will post a similar thread in the DM forum. Thank you for your cooperation. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : James McMurray Date : 05-24-04 10:39 AM 1) Not me. :) 2) I would just leave them as they are and ignore spheres for paladins, rangers, and the like. 3) Good and Evil should be done. 4) I would also leave druid spell lists untouched. Spheres should apply only to clerics. You could even ditch the druid altogether and just have clerics of nature gods whose spheres were animal, plant, sun, etc. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
