I have been to a couple sites that have the 1st edition stuff on them. I have several questions concerning down loaded d&d books. 1) How easy if it do you have to use adobe or some thing please tell me what my computer has to have before I download? 2) I have dial up and it does freeze up from time to time, so I would want to use a friend’s computer or one at the universities library and put it on a disk would that work okay. 3) Perhaps on some things it would be better to pick up a book on Ebay, Amazon or at a local gaming store, were ever I get the best deal. I think that printing up one of those downloading book would make it more expensive? 4) I have found some very rare modules that I would like to down load. So can I put several modules onto the same disk and how are they to print up I mean what about the maps they were often bigger than the standard sheet of paper? 5) As you can tell I am not some computer guru. Since I have not download any books before I don’t know the pros and the cons of it. So please help me so I know what best to do here? Thanks 6) I was a DM years ago and an going to do it again with my son and hopely some of his friends to spark some new comers in the world of D&D. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : SnowbearK Date : 06-10-04 11:40 PM Thread Title : Re: about down loading books. You need Adobe Acrobat Reader, usually 5.0 will work fine (for older comps) but some, such as Drivethrurpg.com require Acrobat 6.0 with DRM activated. Winzip will be necessary as well. 2) I have dial up and it does freeze up from time to time, so I would want to use a friend’s computer or one at the universities library and put it on a disk would that work okay. Probably be best to use a friends if it freezes a lot. Either that or use RPGnow.com, as they'll let you keep trying with minimal fuss and also tell you the size of the file being downloaded. 3) Perhaps on some things it would be better to pick up a book on Ebay, Amazon or at a local gaming store, were ever I get the best deal. I think that printing up one of those downloading book would make it more expensive? If you can get it cheaper, go right ahead. Personally, I print from my office, so I don't pay for anything in that regard, and I only print player handouts and stuff, everything else I keep on my laptop for game use. 4) I have found some very rare modules that I would like to down load. So can I put several modules onto the same disk and how are they to print up I mean what about the maps they were often bigger than the standard sheet of paper? Maps are usually broken up into standard page size pieces, and it depends on the size of the file. Some, such as Tomb of Horrors, run up to 55mb, and would require CD, DVD, or ZIPDisk to transport easily. 5) As you can tell I am not some computer guru. Since I have not download any books before I don’t know the pros and the cons of it. So please help me so I know what best to do here? Thanks Ask (nicely) and you shall receive. Essentially, you're getting a digital format that's easy to read, reference, and use, but requires a computer or a lot of paper to print out. Unless you have access to a printer that can print double-sided, the printed format's going to take a lot of physical space. The digital copy as stated, can be fairly hard to transport unless you have ZIPdrive, CD burner, or DVD burner. 6) I was a DM years ago and an going to do it again with my son and hopely some of his friends to spark some new comers in the world of D&D. Congrats, I'm going to do the same with my spawn once he reaches the appropriate age to initiate into the mysteries of the Gaming Gods. :D Only 6 more years to go...mwuahahahahah! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 06-11-04 12:44 AM Thread Title : Re: about down loading books. In this case, it's probably a good idea to get the rulebooks you need in hardcopy rather than as a computer file. Most of the rulebooks are available at non-auction sites like Amazon.com or a few other used book sellers for about the same price you'd pay for a computer file and in really excellent condition (considering their age). For modules (especially the shorter ones) the computer files are OK. However, if you have the wherewithal, there's nothing like having a copy of the real thing in your hand when you sit down to play. Congratulations on introducing your son to the wonders of roleplaying! May you create many happy memories together. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : dragonslayer76 Date : 06-11-04 02:32 PM could you give me the sites other than amozon to get used Ad&d books. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 06-11-04 03:12 PM Noble Knight and Dragons Trove are two good ones. Some of their stuff is a little expensive, but their service is excellent. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Dielzen Date : 06-11-04 04:48 PM www.hitpointe.com -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : realmaster Date : 06-13-04 06:42 PM I have PDF's of quite alot of my books and it is nice to be able to just open them up without having to go get the book when an idea comes to mind for the next game. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : James McMurray Date : 06-13-04 07:35 PM Another person at this board turned me on to Stiggybaby. They looked to be really cheap, the book I got was cheaper than any other site I found it at, and in great condition (it looked like it had never been opened).. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
