Specifically, I started my DnD career with 2E rules but have only REALLY played with 3E. I went for several years with only my own imagination to work with and no gaming group. It was a dark time... Anyway, I just recently started gaming with a 2E group and have begun to realize that I love 2E even though it has its own faults. Okay enough reminiscing (spelling?). I have played 2E but have never any of the modules. I have begun thinking about running one of the classic adventures for my group, but I do have a question. What all do you have to change in the 1E modules to run them in 2E or can they be used pretty much as is? Also, has anybody here tried using a Hackmaster version of a classic module with their DnD group? Results? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-17-04 05:53 PM You can use almost any 1e module in 2e without many, if any, changes. Second edition was nothing more than a collection of the rules most often used in 1e and put into one book. In fact, I know many players who used books from either edition and never really noticed the difference. Both editions do have a slightly different feel (especially if you're playing right out of the PHB/DMG) though but I don't think that will have anything to do with the published adventures. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Darth_Kjeran Date : 06-17-04 09:16 PM Chello! I'm a sanctioned HM GM. That being said, the best way to play the classic mods for 2e is just to find the classics on ebay, Dragons Trove, Titan, and play them. Playing a 1e module in 2e requires no changes at all. That amount to anything, anyway. I cut my D&D teeth on 1e AD&D and the box sets from the early '80s. I DM using 2e rules but still have all my old 1e manuals. And there are many of my home-made dungeons that have 1e monsters in them. The differences are miniscule at best. So, dude, have fun gaming. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Urzah Date : 06-18-04 01:13 PM DMB Lord Vader and Lord Kjeran (which is the master and which is the apprentice?) Thank you all for your help! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-18-04 04:41 PM No problem, glad to help. And I'm still learning so I must be the apprentice. lol :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : blackprinceofmuncie Date : 06-18-04 08:16 PM Originally posted by vader42xx Second edition was nothing more than a collection of the rules most often used in 1e and put into one book. Although the differences aren't as glaring as the differences between AD&D/3E or BD&D/AD&D, there are a vast number of differences between the two rulesets. Some are minor, others are pretty major. However, you're absolutely correct that modules can essentially be used without modification. Most of the differences come in during character creation and combat resolution which are the realm of the rulebooks, not the modules. The one thing that may hang you up is that 1e modules don't list a THACO for monsters in the stat block (when they list anything at all, other than "orc, 3hp"), so you will either have to have a 1e combat matrix handy, or look up the monster in your 2e books for that additional info. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Varl Date : 06-19-04 03:09 AM What all do you have to change in the 1E modules to run them in 2E or can they be used pretty much as is? As is. I've been doing it for years now. Gingwatzim from Lost Island of Castanamir were a blast to run using 2e rules. :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:18 AM.
