Thread Title : Nyx: Male or female??

I have read descriptions of Nyx at the Vault where the immortal hierarch of entrophy is female, but in the module IM1: The Immortal Storm, Nyx is male both in the text and in the pictures.

Anybody has a clue what is going on?

:-) Jesper

According to Wrath of the Immortals, her normal form is female, but she is known to occasionally appear as a male (usually in order to command more respect from the more chauvinistic Immortals).

Just like the gods of real-world mythology, Immortals of Mystara can assume different forms as it pleases them.

I don't see a problem at all with immortals having both male and female manifestation forms.
Originally Nyx was obviously male, since old Immortal adventures depicted him as a wizened old man. Eventually he was turned into a female when WotI was penned down by Allston (go figure), and she was later turned AGAIN into a male (under the identity of Zargos in the Milenian Empire!). But it's not a problem really. Demogorgon was also both male and female in old immortal and nobody raised any issue.

It's just common for a deity to have different forms, so he/she can actually take on whichever gender he/she likes. Apparently Nyx likes to be represented both as male or female, so leave it be. Otherwise we should complain about Ordana being represented as a treant, a dryad and an elf, or Korotiku being a spider, a lupin or a human... ;)

To sum up: within each culture/civilization an immortal may take/be worshipped under a different form, even a different gender.
