According to WotI, the Twelve Watchers is really just one Immortal with multiple personalities (a personality for each craft he patronizes). I personally don't really like this idea, and would rather have the Twelve Watchers be the name of a pantheon of craftsmen of the dwarves. In any case, has anyone else ever quantified exactly who/what the 12 Watchers represent? Given them names (either as other Immortals or their own), and their crafts? In Gaz9, we have these "generic" names as the most prominent Watchers: The Smith The Miner The Stonecarver What would be some other aspects? Given the Watcher/s ties to dwarves, I'd guess maybe something like these: The Gemcarver The Armorer The Arms Maker The Architect Can't really think of any others offhand. Also, anyone have any ideas what their names might be? (something a little less generic than "The Smith" for example...?) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lost Woodrake Date : 12-12-04 02:27 AM Well, I would divide "The Smith" into "The Blacksmith", "The Coppersmith" and "The Goldsmith". How about "The Engraver" - for delicate carving of stone? Is "The Mechanic" too modern? As for the names - I'll have to check the dictionary at the Rockhome GAZ. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : sbwilson Date : 12-12-04 04:31 PM Is "The Mechanic" too modern? Clockwork? Engineer? Inventor? Blackmoorian Nuclear Physicist? :P -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Lost Woodrake Date : 12-12-04 05:05 PM "Job Manager"? :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Hugin Date : 12-12-04 10:48 PM What if the Twelve Watchers were a group of mortals who somehow gained Immortality together at the same time to become one being containing each of the distint consciences. I have absolutely no idea how, but it's a thought. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : DM Date : 12-13-04 08:35 AM Well, canon sources on the Twelve Watchers are HW and WotI. It's WotI that tells us the true story of the Twelve Watchers (that they are in fact ONE single immortal suffering of split personalities), which I have expanded as follows: "The Twelve Watchers are in fact a single immortal born with the name of Doregar. A Darokinian adventurer (and a wizard), he saw all of his comrades slaughtered during an unlucky mission and he was the only survivor. because of this shock, he developed split personalities, one for each of his fellow adventurers, and later he managed to achieve immortality under the sponsorship of Kagyar thanks to his skills; unfortunately, this didn't cure his affliction. In fact, he was the only immortal to follow the Path of the Polymath living 3 different lives simultaneously thanks to his split personalities. Doregar is patron of all artisans (although not so widespread since he's been immortal only for the last 9 centuries) and collaborates with Kagyar. he created 12 avatars of himself so he could give a body to each of his personalities and mortals worship each of his persona as patron of one craft. The Twelve Personas he possesses are: Smith, Carpenter, Stonecutter, Woodcarver, Potter, Glassblower, Tailor, Miller, Cartwright, Tanner, Dyer, Brewer." At least that's according to my liking :P :) Anyway, just look at all the different arts & crafts in GAZ9 and pick 12: you won't make a mistake I suppose. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 12-25-04 07:30 PM I just found a couple of other Immortal craftsmen that we could add as the Twelve Watcher's contemporaries (or identities, if you don't like the "multiple personality" idea) Kagyar- obviously Wayland Smith/Wieland/Volund/Volunder- A northern reaches Immortal Ilmarinen- creator of the golden Wife artifact (Master DM's book) Polunius the Designer- a triton Immortal -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:29 AM.
