I recently purchased GURPS Discworld. I am a long time fan of Discworld, and love the presentation of the setting, but I don't want to use GURPS rules for it, as I don't know them too well and didn't like overmuch what I saw. Anyway, although all my games these days are 3rd Ed, I think that Discworld is a good place to run a 2nd ed game. I am going through my books, and can't figure out a good way to set up the witches featured in the Discworld books. Wizard doesn't work, nor does priest. I don't think psionics work either. If there is anyone who has tackled this already, or has any ideas, I could use the help. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Torack Date : 01-31-05 02:50 AM There's the Witch kit from the Complete Wizard's Handbook that might do the trick... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Muir Date : 01-31-05 10:16 AM Unfortunately, the only 2nd ed material I have is he 3 core books and the Speljammer boxed set. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : kengar Date : 01-31-05 03:56 PM I'm not very familiar with 2e (only edition of D&D I never played) but the witches of discworld (i.e. Granny Weatherwax, etc.) would be hard to put into D&D terms. Their abilities aren't really that simple to put into specific spells and so forth. Remember, Granny Weatherwax is the most powerful magic-using person on the Disc, it's hard to put that on paper and stay true to the "feel" of a fictional setting. It's like Gandalf from Middle Earth is a 5th level wizard (according to a Dragon article from a long long time ago). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Muir Date : 01-31-05 06:15 PM Thread Title : I am not interested in statting NPCs... ...but, say, if a player wanted to play one, then what would I do? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Torack Date : 02-01-05 08:09 AM It sorta depends. From my experience(albeit limited), most people try to emulate a person's character rather then powers. Assuming this isn't the case for you, maybe telling us(meaning me) a little about the Disc World witch and its powers could be considered a decent idea. You may not have anything other then the core books, but there's usually quite alot of tinkering you could do with a character class without any rewriting(Such as weapon proficiencies, Non-weapon proficiencies, Wizard's spell allowance, Priest domain-access etc.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
