Did Douglas Niles do anything else? Thanx Scotty G for clearing up that T1 question for me! Your paragraph was clearer than the one in the module for some reason. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : rogueattorney Date : 02-08-05 04:17 PM Geting ready to play B5 this weekend Read and sounds like it will be a wonderfiul adventure! Did Douglas Niles do anything else? Doug Niles was one of the main contributors to TSR in the last half of the 80's and 90's. http://www.pen-paper.net/rpgdb.php?op=showcreator&creatorid=2072 However, other than N1 Cult of the Reptile God, and the absolutely stellar B5 Horror on the Hill, I'm not a particular fan of his work. I love the style of the early B modules because they are pretty plot lite. They give a cool locale to explore, and enough back story to get you going, but are easily woven into any setting and campaign. The only change I'd make is the name of the fort. Guido's Fort just doesn't do anything for me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Ourph the Mingol Date : 02-08-05 08:19 PM Douglas Niles did the original 1e Lankhmar, City of Adventure supplement (and did a mighty fine job AFAIC :)) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : kallisti23 Date : 02-18-05 06:37 PM Douglas Niles is also responsible for module X3 The Curse of Xanathon, which is a wonderful city adventure. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : arvedui Date : 02-19-05 07:25 AM Hi, a talk with Doug Niles is also reported this week in Monte's site: http://www.montecook.com/cgi-bin/page.cgi?int_dnd30_Doug -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : rogueattorney Date : 02-21-05 04:29 PM Douglas Niles did the original 1e Lankhmar, City of Adventure supplement (and did a mighty fine job AFAIC :)) Just won it on Ebay. Hope it comes soon. I've heard it's the best D&D city ever made. I'll have to see how it compares with City State of the Invincible Overlord. R.A. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : I'm Batman Date : 02-22-05 11:31 AM Congrats on that, RA. I love the City of Lankhmar boxed sets. Which one did you get: The old one (green/black box) or the newer one (orange box)? Both have their charms, but the orange box has a more complete city map (which I preferred). The older boxed set includes city geomorphs which you need to reference when you enter the middle of many of the city blocks--on the plus side, this lets you individualize the city, but on the minus side it can be haphazard and difficult (the geomorphs can't just be laid onto the map, they're the wrong size). Not many people like the Lankhmar setting rules, though--it's very low magic setting. They're not essential to the game, though, and I've played a couple of incredible Lankhmar campaigns with standard AD&D rules. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : rogueattorney Date : 02-22-05 05:22 PM I got the 1e version with the geomorphs, which is the one I wanted. Not particularly worried about the setting rules. I'll adapt them if I like them and ignore them if I don't. I really like the Newhon stuff in my Legends & Lore book. If the city is great, too, I'll be looking to get the two 1e modules - Swords of the Undercity and Swords of Deceit. If it all looks good, Lankhmar might find a home in my homebrew.
