They introduced prestige domains in Defenders of the Faith (a 3E product) and I don't recall them being used in the various 3.5E books. I had started to give the Immortals prestige domains, but I think I should just roll them into the domains listing. Anyone know about this? Thanks in advance! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 11-15-05 05:53 PM They introduced prestige domains in Defenders of the Faith (a 3E product) and I don't recall them being used in the various 3.5E books. I had started to give the Immortals prestige domains, but I think I should just roll them into the domains listing. Pretty sure they did away with Prestige Domains in 3.5. I don't recall seeing anything official about it, but a lot of the PDs in 3.0 have become regular domains in 3.5- Celerity, Community, Creation, Domination, Glory, Inquisition, Madness, Mind, Mysticism, Pestilence. Summoning and Divination were renamed to Summoner and Oracle in 3.5 and are "regular" domains as well. Additionally, certain Prestige Classes in 3.0 who gained Prestige Domains as class features simply gain regular domains now- Church Inquisitor gains Inquisition, Contemplative gains bonus domains rather than PDs, etc. Prestige Domains never seemed quite fully formed as concepts, IMO, though in theory they might have made a good idea. Presumably that's why they seem to have gotten rid of them. I assume the concept was probably to allow prestige classes to have different spell selections than other "standard" clerics, but I'd say they replaced the PD idea with the Initiate of "X" feat selection, and made the spell differentiation based more on deity choice than class choice in 3.5 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Traianus Decius Aureus Date : 11-15-05 09:30 PM Thanks, that is what I thought. I wish Wizards made that a little clearer (or maybe I should have looked harder ;) ) Well at least figuring out the domains got a lot easier. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : MrFilthyIke Date : 11-16-05 03:27 PM There are some prestige classes that give "prestige" domains in 3.5, but I'm at work and can't list any from memory. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Cthulhudrew Date : 11-16-05 07:11 PM Found this quote over on the FR Boards (the "One and Only Ask the Designers..." thread): I chatted with Mike Donais, who was lead developer on the book, and he confirmed that yes, prestige domains are dead. Basically, we decided that they were just not all that much different from regular domains. They just didn't offer good design space. So there's about as official a statement on the issue as I've seen. I'll let you know later in the week when I pick my copy up. Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Gazza555 Date : 02-21-06 12:31 PM I'm picking up the Spell Compendium tonight - together with Libris Mortis, Lords of Madness and Races of Destiny (as well as Shadizar and Hyboria's Finest for Conan) - so I'll let you know if it contains Prestige Domains tomorrow. :) And that's all my spare cash gone for a few months. :weep: Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Traianus Decius Aureus Date : 02-21-06 01:40 PM Quite the selection there :) Libris Mortis and Lords of Madness are pretty good. Races of Destiny has some good points, but is a little dull when compared to the others in the series. I thought the domains in the Spell Compendium were inserted to give "official" 3.5E version to the domains- ones that either had different versions, like Glory, or had not been converted yet. I could be wrong, though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Gazza555 Date : 02-22-06 04:15 AM Ok I've looked through the book and there are no actual Prestige Domains in the Spell Compendium. But some that were are included in the list below (which lists the Domains in the Spell Compendium). Additional Domains Balance Cavern Celerity Charm Cold Community Competition Courage Craft Creation Darkness Deathbound Domination Dragon Dream Drow Dwarf Elf Envy Family Fate Force Glory Gluttony Gnome Greed Halfling Hatred Hunger Illusion Inquisition Liberation Lust Madness Mentalism Metal Mind Moon Mysticism Nobility Ocean Oracle Orc Pact Pestilence Planning Portal Pride Purification Renewal Retribution Rune Scalykind Slime Sloth Spell Spider Storm Suffering Summoner Time Trade Tyranny Undeath Wealth Windstorm Wrath Planar Domains Abyss Arborea Baator Celestia Elysium Hades Limbo Mechanus Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Gazza555 Date : 02-22-06 05:24 AM One thing I should mention about the Spell Compendium. One of its listed sources is the article from Dragon 318 - 'Children of Ka'. So there is a Mystara connection/content, however tenuous, in a current WotC product. ;) Regards Gary -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 09:24 AM.
