Could the spell "Telekinesis" be used to move objects in possesion of other creatures, such as a sword or shield?

I would give the owner a saving throw to avoid having their item affected.  Even if the saving throw failed, though, if the item affected was being firmly held or was firmly fastened to the person (and how many adventurers run around with items hanging loose on thier bodies?), then the caster would have to be able to lift the weight of the whole person, and use the alternate version of the spell to "hurl" the whole person, for it to work.

Yeah, I thought about allowing a ST too, but I was not sure.
However, is there a spell that could do this more easily?
I was able to make up one quite cheesy way, by using rules from the "High-level campaigns" book and create a Dwemover that teleports an item to yourself, lol.

Do what more easily, exactly?  

Levitate can be used to move an object off another (if they fail their save), only the object will go straight up as opposed to somewhere else you may want it to go.  It is a lower level spell though, so in that regard it is "more easily" done than Telekineses.  

An Unseen Servant could lift an unattended object off someone, if you were within 30 feet of them and if it wasn't to heavy.

If what you want to do is snatch a sword and shield out of an alert opponents hands without them getting a save, umm, no, offhand I don't know of such a spell other than Wish, maybe, but that's hardly more easy to cast than Telekineses.

There might be a spell out there in one of the supplements, but I don't know that spell if it exist.
