I am starting a 5th age campaign and I need some pointers, since all I have to go on so far is what I've been able to gather from various sites (dl3e.com & dragonlance.com).

Here we go.
(WARNING! LONG POST!)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
.:: Hearts of Courage ::.
A Dragonlance 5th age campaign.

Setting: Year 31 SC (414 AC). Just before the heroes of Goldmoon wage war on the dragonlords.

Characters: (all PC generated)

- Tygore Plainstrider; Male Minotaur (as per Savage Species) from Kothas. He is in search of his father who was exiled for cheating with a poisoned dagger at a duel for tribe leadership.

- Laika Evergood; Female Kendar Paladin. She is not a paladin as you would commonly think of such, but instead she follows the same mindset of a Knight of Steel. She has a keen sense of fairness and tends to mettle in the affairs of others to ensure true neutral justice. (In time she will develop into a true paladin as I have planned for her to find a dragon lance and become a kendar version of Huma, though on a smaller scale.)

- Korr of Kern; Male Half-Ogre (as per Savage Species) barbarian. Being the result of a **** by a human male barbarian on a female ogre barbarian, he has lived a life in shame, having to fight harder and better to be accepted by his tribe. When the day came to chose a successor to the dead tribe leader, the others denied Korr to participate in the duels because he was "only half-blood". He left the tribe in rage and swore to become powerful and wealthy, only to return to take vengeance on them all.

- A human monk, but the player has yet to hand in his character. I'm thinking Fighting monks of Que-Shu with some bright personal quest as well. (I know my players )

-----------------------------------------------------------
Classes allowed:

Barbarian;
Fighter;
Druid;
Ranger;
Bard;
Rogue;
Sorcerer;
Mystic (sorcerer with divine spell list);
Paladin (Running it more as a mindset and calling in life than actual member of an order with big shiny armor etc. It gives less restrictions on the class Roleplaying wise, and it allows characters to start out as "fighters" and dedicate themselves to begin innitiation of a knighthood at about same level as they gain spells)
Monk;

PrC allowed:
Any if they can be explained by the player how, why and where the PrC fits into the DL setting. As long as it doesn't conflict with anything or creates powerful factions that mess up the general timeline I'm ok with it.

------------------------------------------------------------------
The Campaign beginning:

The players are all kept as slaves in a quarry near in Neraka, near the border to Blode. The quarry is run by soldiers of a lesser Red Dragon called Astaleth. When the campaign starts, the players organize an escape from the quarry and flee into the forest towards Blode. Before long they encounter a Death Knight called Andeles. The Death Knight was created by Astaleth when he as an young and hopeful initiate into the knights of Solamnia was forced to battle the dragon.
He now seeks vengeance upon the dragon for cursing him with such a terrible fate, and he lets nothing stand in his way.
Throughout the first part of the campaign Andeles will use and manipulate the PCs to help him battle Astaleth (though they wont need much motivation after being the dragon's slaves).

Now here is where I want the campaign to become epic. I've planned for the heroes to join Andeles in fighting and defeating Astaleth, and killing the red dragon should serve as a stepping stone for heroism. Generally making a name for the group.
Now I need to tie this in with the Goldmoon heroes declaring war on the Dragonlords, so the PCs get to join the big fight while still pursuing their own individual goals as stated earlier in this post.

Any ideas or pointers? Something I did wrong or just general C&C would be highly appreciated.

Cheers

If your the DM, you can't really do anything wrong. It's your campaign, you decide. If you want to change established facts to suit your campaign, please go ahead.

Now I need to tie this in with the Goldmoon heroes declaring war on the Dragonlords, so the PCs get to join the big fight while still pursuing their own individual goals as stated earlier in this post.

Have Goldmoon or one of her representatives from the Citadel of Light meet the 'new heroes in town' and offer them a quest that somehow ties in with the Heroes of the Heart battling the overlords. Perhaps tell them that one of Malystryx's dragon allies is (so it is rumored) planning to continue Astaleths experiments in death knight creation to form an army of them. Then have Tygore bump into a minotaur who he recognizes as a friend of his fathers. The minotaur tells that Tygores father was last seen gathering mercenaries to attack this dragon because of a certain magical treasure in his hoard (rumored to be a dragonlance, which should tickle Laika). The mention of the hoard should also make Korr want to take the quest.

Just some random ideas.

Now why didn't I come up with that? But I already changed it to post war of souls, so I could pretty much do what I want, since I hate changing things in established campaign worlds just to make them fit my needs (otherwise I could just make my own world).

But that whole hoard idea might just come in handy. I posted my plans for my campaign in soem other thread around here, can't remember which one though.
