Ok, need some ideas for templates, which will be appearing in ToA (Terrors of Athas).

For examples, look here .

Just needing a few more. If you don't want to post here you can send me an email to templates at crimsonsun dot org.

My suggestion: don't forget the elementalish and half-elemental templates from the Manual of Planes, use them as a core material. Fit in nicely with all the elemental clerics running around on Athas.

We can't unless it becomes OGL.

You would be able to do up templates for the para elements that are unique to Athas (sun, magma, rain, silt).

Then there's always a template or two for alterations from the Pristine Tower (i.e. the new race idea from several different websites).

Good idea.

I'd rather just keep it in the DM's hands and say it's the polymorph other spell. I made one up for fun and it got too complicated and way too out of control.

i guess the "sun-touched" wouldn't be an option, ha ha! not as in sunburnt, but as in "sun-crazed"...

so what about shadow creatures/forms not covered by the black touched? or other ghost creatures, e.g. from past ages? tauric creatures? mutants, diseased, cursed...?

... psionic freak animal? e.g. psionic animal template (as a mutation)?

I.E. giving a normal creature the psionic template, which is already present?

Hehe

Manual of the Planes I do believe.

Note that I do plan to list these other templates, and their sources as things that are workable on Athas.

or other ghost creatures, e.g. from past ages?

TotDL pretty much has that covered I think.

I've also got another skeleton template coming up, but I think that's it on undead. I know I said you can never have enough, but it's getting to the point where I'm running out of ideas for more.

tauric creatures? mutants, diseased, cursed...?

Think tauric already exists in SS.

As for the others, it's something to work with I guess. What did you have in mind?

don't know about psionic monster template. could there be one which allows for more randomness or freakiness? like a "weird psionic creature" template or a multi-template, e.g. psionic/defiled, he he...

Well the psionic template in the PsiHb pretty much covers that.

I guess we could make an Athasian version (though I see no need too) that is a bit more powerful or something.

i assume there is some kind of New Race template? but a mutant template would be different. have to think about how it (and the other ideas) would work...

Nah, I'm fine with leaving that in the DM's hand. Tried making one and it got too carried away.

If you have an idea for one though, feel free to share it.

Still, mutations are said to be common on Athas (DS box, 1st edition) and with the warpings of the Pristine Tower . . . it would be nice to have something in the ToA about both, perhaps not as templates and such, but something for inspiration or at least to appease rules junkies (I'm reminded of the little random demon generation table from the back of the 1st edition DMG that I used to create tons of wacko creatures with). Even just a collection of charts, tables, or simple idea spreads would be cool.

Actually, there was a chart of mutations for Humans in DS1e, I could reconstruct that and put it into ToA.

For the Pristine Tower I can just suggest to use the polymorph other spell and mutate from there as the DM sees fit.

A reworked version of the mutations would be neat. I also did some work on half-elementals a while back - I'll take a look and see if I have anything for the para-elemental templates, if the MotP templates aren't OGL yet...
