There seems to be a lack of them in Krynn. The diety selection leaves a little something to be desired, and the domains available for those dieties tends to be the alignment options, and then 1 other. Not exactly stellar.

Soo.... anyone have any good ideas for a cleric?

I've gotten landed with the role of healer in my group again, and I was curious what others have done for Krynnish clerics.

I was thinking a Kagonesti Cleric of Chislev, possibly going into Nomad Shaman if I did. My weapon selection wouldn't be all that great, but what can I do?

So... any ideas?

Unfortunately, the cleric has the stereotype of the healer.

My advice is three-fold. First, look at your domains. They'll help you to define your cleric. This works moreso with mystics, but the same principle applies to clerics as well.

Secondly, ask yourself what type of clerics would serve your deity. If your deity is Kiri-Jolith or Sargonnas, you may wish to be a bit militant. If your deity is Hiddukel, you may be sneaky.

Third, think of multi-class options. If you're a cleric of Branchala, take some bard levels. If you're a cleric of Chislev, take druid or ranger levels.

There's any number of combinations one can create. Hope that helps.

Idea: Go for greed and let them all die! Bwahaha!

Seriously. Nobody should feel obligated to be the healer type. That's when you play a Neutral cleric and channel Inflict spells, just to mess with 'em.

Otherwise, Mishakal = Healing as far as I'm concerned. And yeah, Cleric selection is very limited and very specific. But I think I like it that way.

I'm not really sure what you're asking but I'll give it a shot...

Gods of Light -

Mishakal -
Kender Faith Jesters - Travelling from town to town performing shows to entertain the populace and performing miracles to help the sick for no fee. Kender Faith Jesters worship both Branchala and Mishakal which bothers neither of the dieties. Wandering from place to place on their holy missions. Usually donate "findings" to churchs.

Kiri Jo'lith -
The Initiates of the Bison - a clerical Order of "Warrior Clerics" who use their divine gifts to wage war on evil. Unlike the rigid heirarchal KoS the Initiates of the Bison are a loose knit group of "Freedom Fighters", preferring to help the helpless and right wrongs as opposed to ruling and codifying laws. Wear horned helms.

Majere -
Fleet Foots - Cleric/Monks who prefer to wear no armor and only loose fitting clothing designed for adventuring. Fleet foots are explorers and knowledge gatherers. Their training makes them adept at climbing any mountain, traversing any trail, ascending any tree, traverssing any cave. It is the goal of all Fleet Foots to know all of the knowledge found on Krynn, but knowledge cannot be horded. Fleet Foots are also storytellers delighting inns with the tales and fables that they have accrued in their travels.

Habbkuk -
Sea Elf School Wardens - School Wardens of the Fisher King practice their magic and use it to tame the creatures of the deep. A typical School Warden is attended by an entire school of fish. These fish are raised as livestock for Sea Elven communities, and the School Warden has the prestigious task of protecting the clans' food sources.

Branchala -
See Kender Faith Jesters

The Gods of Balance

Chislev -
Bringers of the Storm - Bringers of the Storm live alone atop high mountain tops or in caves in the deeps of the forests. Bringers of the storm despise civilization and wish to bring nature to its rightful place. Wielding magic to bring forth the horrendous powers of weather Bringers of the Storm wish for nothing more than to destroy all of the urban world and see the world blanketted in forests.

Gilean -
The List-Servers - With the elaborateness of gnomish society someone needs to keep accurate records of everything. The List-Servers are the gnomes who feel the need to catalogue all of the information in Mount Nevermind, and the universe at large. Following the God of the Book's example to the extreme, gnomes of the List-Serv jot down notes on every thing they see, noting cloud formations hourly, stone composition for each mile, taking leaf, skin, cell, rock, water, etc.. samples at every step. These gnomes usually carry automated books sorting machines to hold the myriad of Tomes which they carry with them

..and I'm spent. I originally intended to do one for every god but now I realize I've used up to much of everyone'saybe i'll finish later.

That's pretty sweet Leet Angel. I'm going to steal those now.

Hmm... let's see if I can come up with anything.

Apostles of the Apocolypse: Morgion has always been the loyal follower of Chaos. From his bronze tower in the Abyss, he seeks to undo all of creation through disease and destruction. He fears that another god will try to do what Takhisis has done, and attempt to steal away the world and prevent the Final Cataclysm. Thus, this esoteric order seeks to thwart the other gods, and destroy their followers whenever possible.

The Grandchildren: A select group of Hiddukelites, chosen specifically for the task of elevating Malfesus, a demon child of Hiddukel and Takhisis, to the empty chair of the dead goddess. To accomplish this task, they are seeking powerful mortals, so that they can be sucked dry of their lifeforce by the powerful demon.

The Skullbearers: These followers of Chislev, mostly goblin druids, seek to retreive the skull of Beryl from the waters of Nalis Arlen. Not only will it revitalize the dying woodlands South of the Kharolis mountains, but by retreiving enough dragon skulls, they hope to build a dragon totem powerful enough to turn the entire world of Krynn into an earthly reflection of the mythical forests of Zhan.

From playing Dl using the DLA, I have always had the impressions that most clerics of krynn were specialty priests. In short, healing was not always available to all clerics. For instance a cleric of Kiri-jolith did not have healing abilities whatsoever. He(she) did however have alot of combat and destructive powers. So in 3e, he would have have inflict spells, rather than cure spells (in my opinion). When DMing, I use my messenger of the star class.

The cleric is granted all the domains and domain powers of his chosen deity and may cast spontaneous spells that are domain spells of his god. However the cleric is limited to only spells that are general cleric spells (those without an additional identifier such as healing, fire, etc...) and spells with identifiers of his deity, and may not cast spells that are listed on a domain outside of his chosen deity's domains.

For instance, a cleric of mishakel casts all general spells, and spells with the healing identifier, and may even spontaneously cast healing spells even if they do not day "cure" from the healing domain. The mishakel cleric is very limited in aggresive combat spells.

I admit that I have not had the chance to update this class due to being deployed in Iraq and the release of the DLCS and age of Mortals sourcebooks (both of which I have only recently picked up). But the general idea is, if you want healing go see a cleric of mishakel, combat - cleric of Kiri-jolith, Knowledge-cleric of Gilean (or perhaps Majere). I also allow for clerics of the gods of Magic. How exactly I am going to work that I am not sure. But that is the general idea.
