OK I have to start on a Intro Movie for Dark Sun Online. Tony Jay has agreed to Narrate the Intro movie for the up coming DSO game. If any of you are unfamiliar with Tony Jay he has played many voice roles in cartoons and commercials. For example he was the Voice of MegaByte from the cartoon Reboot. He also was the voice for the necromaner in The Legacy of Kain series. He also was the voice for the evil judge in the disney movie The Hunchback of Notredam and more.

I am now looking to you Dark Sun fans to help come up with the Naration text that will be used in the Dark Sun Online movie. If your text you submit is used you will recieve credit for your work on the site in in the game credits.

This game is being developed wiht out any funding and is being developed by people donating their time to its creation so you will not recieve any financial credit if your work is chosen.

The Dark Sun Online game is being re-produced by a third party developer and not by W.O.T.C. or any company under Hasbro but has been given permissions to re-create the game from Hasbros Legal Department.

I look forward to reading what you all have come up with. Basically describe the world, its economy, its environment, mysteries etc. Make it sound brutal and unforgiving yet striving to survive a already nearly dead environment.

Be creative!

Thanks,

Heres a idea... possibly the intro be a phrase or something from the wanderer himself? Thoughts?

Unfortunately, the actual 'in character' text from the wanderer is rather bland. Not really the best source to draw material from. Sectional, there's some nice stuff, but there's little worth quoting at any length.

A question though. What kind of time length are you looking for? Assuming its for a flashplayer style intro for the website (which tend to be brief at around 25 seconds or so) or an actual in game intro (which tend to be longer at 2 minutes).

It will be for a actual movie video ranging about 2-5 minutes depending. Yea I wouldnt want people to use materials from the books word for wword but rather prases that are inspired by the Dark Sun resource books. Ill post a example intro I have been working on soon to get some feed back.

Here is a sample of a INtro I have come up with. I used inspiration from the Wanderers Chronical to help me come up with the intro.
INTRO "Revised":
Look around you traveler! The crimson sun beats down from a dust filled sky, scorching the life from everything around you. The very earth upon which you stand trembles before the never-ending quakes. The lands that surround you are pillaged by relentless sand storms which sear away everything from flesh to stone.

Look upon it well, for this is your home. This is Athas, a bleak and dry land stretching from the choking Sea of Silt and the cracked fields of the Obsidian Plains to the Jagged Cliffs that wall off escape into the rest of the world. This place is a brutal and savage land which spawns abominations of life, a formidable fury of fiends driven only to bring much death and greater pain.

The mysteries of what lies beyond the great jagged cliffs may very well present itself soon, for the only salvation in support of the life on the Table Lands lies within the depths of its own discarded past. A time back before the green age, back to when the land was covered by great overflows of water.

I ask you stranger, will you take up the gyth’ka and rise up to help these lands and its life to find its deliverance, or will you sit idly by and care for nothing?

~The Wanderer~

After having seen a picture of Tony Jay and being able to put a voice to the name (and a damn fine one at that), my brain went into overdrive.

An intro (one of several, I'll post one or two of the others as I clean them up a bit):

Ahhhhh . . . can you feel that. The burning sun . . . the scortching winds. Its as if the land itself wants to destroy you with everything it has. And indeed, it does.

From the obsidian covered wastes of the Dead Lands, to the Scortched Plateau far to the north, or even the endless reaches of the Sea of Silt. Look around you, Slave. All you will find beyond the City-States is a merciless death brought on by the untold years of destruction and devestation by the Sorceror-Kings who rule these few remaining cities.

You owe the Sorceror-Kings your life though Slave, for they offer protection not just from the ravages of the harsh lands beyond their walls, but also from the thri-kreen packs that hunt out in the vast deserts, ever searching for new prey, and the elven tribes who would just as soon skewer you on a longblade as talk to you. But at what price? Obedience. Complacency. Theirs is a harsh rule enforced by the decadant templars. As gods amongst men, so too are the Monarchs who lord with tyranny over us.

Yet there is hope. Just as I know in your heart that you wish for nothing more in this life but to die a Freeman, all of us on Athas hope that somehow, things will change, that somehow, we too will be free of this oppression. The heroes of Free-Tyr showed us that hope is not a fleeting mirage when they slew the Sorceror-King Kalak and freed the slaves of that city for all time. But we are not in Tyr. And you are still a slave. And I . . . I have only my hope to cling to."

Okay, last few lines rather bite. Let me know what you think.

OK sounds good. Let me know when you post the others. But also please at the end put a name and if possible a position for the person talking. like my example intro was from the wanderer himself. Thanks

Sorry, figured the name part was a plug in any old name. I can't think of anything that could be from the Wanderer just yet (Tony Jay's voice is just so evil sounding that I can't picture him voicing out a good guy). Then again, perhaps a narration by one of the SKs . . . . *gets back to scribbling*

Wow, it didn't come up as trible posts until this morning , strange . . . (and yes master, Grasshopper was very patient and did not hammer the submit button). Boards have seemed a little quirky lately.

Err . . . that was the final version. Feel free to use, change, alter, adapt, disregard, print and take to the bathroom with you when you run out of t.p., or whichever, with all due expressed and legal permission (same would apply to any others I post in this thread, once I finish any of them).
