Most likely just an artistic decision. As long as it's consistent, it shoudln't be a problem.

The Legend of Huma states that Huma is left-handed. In the text for the preview scene, it mentions how he draws the sword with his left hand.

On the new cover of the novel, you see Huma holding the dragonlance with his left hand as well.

OK, I was just wondering. I generally don't think of which handed characters are, and so it just stood out to me. Was there any original reason to make him left-handed though, in the novel?

Not that I know of.

He's left-handed just like he is blonde. It's part of who he is.

Yeah, but blond (blonde is the feminine version) and blue-eyed are the traditional western **** heroes, and at the very least, there are certain things you get from a blond, blue eyed hero figure. He was a fictional creation, so what we have is put there for a reason. Do you think Piggy from Lord of the Flies would have made much sense with an athletic figure?

A left-handed swordsman is unusual. Typically, they were better fighters, because nearly everyone was trained against right-handed fighters, and these guys had a surprise advantage over them. Fighting up staircases was easier, because the wall wasn't on the wrong side. So on.

They were harder to train though, because a left-handed fighter would have to teach them, and Huma was only a fairly young knight... Was he even more exceptional than we already thought?

Caramon was also left-handed. I don't think it's that big of a deal in the Dragonlance setting.

Well, in our own history, it did make a bit of difference, as a left-handed swordsman was frowned upon (iirc). There are some things involved, like the salute, which was to show a person as being empty-handed (since most people are right-handed).

But yeah, in DL, unless somebody wants to get into those kinds of things with knights and salutes and sword hands, it isn't a big deal.

This is totally off topic but how the heck do you get cool names like Trampas Whiteman and Cam (I'm guessing that is short for something) Banks. Assuming those are real names perhaps fake names given to people in the witness protection program.

Well...first you start by getting your parents really really high. Then, you give them a dictionary...but make sure they're looking at it upside down...then step back, and let the magic do it's work.

Cam, run! He's found out our secret! ;)

In Cam's case, Cam is short for Cameron.

In my case, I was named after a character on The Virginian, an old 90 minute western that aired in the 60s. It has popped up on the Hallmark Channel lately, which is cool.

Go to www.buckskins.com and you'll see a tribute site for the character.

Thanks for the compliment on our names, though.

I'm actually of Korean descent.

No, really.

And here's a bridge I think you'll be interested in buying...

As Trampas says, Cameron (Cam for short) really is my name. I don't use pseudonyms online except for email accounts (where I'm usually boymonster). Given that Cameron translates from Gaelic for "crooked nose", I doubt I would have picked it myself.

Cheers,
Cam

Well, mine (Troy) is Irish Gaelic for "foot soldier." Alongside my middle name (Howard) which means "watchman" in Old English, I think I have a name not quite fitting for me. Seriously, if you were to meet me in person you would get the idea.

...back on topic time...

So when is the comic coming out again, so I know when I have to raid the local comic store?

I keep getting different meanings for mine every time I read mine. It alternatively means "tender", "inspiration", "to polish", and "tyrant or ruler". "Tender" and "Gracious" are the most common meanings mentioned in the baby books and are likely what my mother had in mind, proving that I was ill-named.

My dad wanted to name me Conrad, which would have meant "bold and able counselor".

Well...while we're discussing name origins...

Tobin is a bastardized version of Tobias (or Tobiah). It's Hebrew meaning...well...I've seen two definitions, it's either "kingly" or "God is good."

Personally...I'm betting it's "kingly."

:D

February 4.

And Trampas in Spanish means "trap". I'm not sure what to think about that.

Okay, I know there is supposed to be an alternate cover...I think...is that coming out at the same time as the original.

You know, we did this whole name meaning thread a long time ago...deja vu to the max. :P

All this talk about names started me thinking so I looked up mine. Lee means meadow. I was named after an aunt. I'm a guy. Actually I figured Cam was short for something I don't know why I couldn't figure out Cameron. I feel stupid now.

Monthly. And if all goes as planned we may see two issues in February (one at the very beginning, the 4th, and one at the very end.) :D

Just a quick reminder that the book comes out today!

Here's the latest Newsflash:
Dabel Edge NEWSFLASH

Hey all,
Sean J. Jordan, Managing Editor for DB Pro here, just wanting to remind you that Dragonlance: The Legend of Huma #1 hits the shelves on Wednesday, February 4th. If you’ve one of the thousands who has been eagerly waiting for this book since it was announced last summer, be sure to rush to your local comic store and pick up both variant covers – they’re both incredible and you’ll be glad to have them as a part of your collection.

But if you’re not a Dragonlance fan or you’re not sure why this book is worth picking up, here are some great reasons to give The Legend of Huma a chance:

1) The page breakdowns were done by industry veteran Mike S. Miller, pencil artist on The Hedge Knight and G.I. Joe Vs. Transformers, among many other projects. The pages were finished by an incredible new artist named Rael and inked by Joe Prado, resulting in some amazing art that will blow you away.

2) The story is expertly crafted by writer Richard A. Knaak and focuses on the “Arthurian Legend” of the Dragonlance universe.

3) The writing itself is an amazingly faithful adaptation of the novel, adapted by Brian Augustyn (for the first issue) and myself.

But don’t take my word for it. I handed out a few issues of the book today for people to review, and here are some of the comments they had to share:

“I’ve never read any Dragonlance stuff before, but this looks really, really cool.”

“Wow! Look at that art!”

“It’s a good story, and it keeps getting better as it goes on. I can’t wait to see the second issue!”

And hey, once you’ve picked up Dragonlance and (I’m sure) enjoyed it, drop us an email at pr@roaringstudios.com and let us know what you thought. We’re always happy to hear some feedback.

That wraps up this announcement. Thanks for reading!

Just finished reading it, great stuff! In case anyone cares, I whipped out my LoH novel to see how far into it the first issue of the comic goes. It stops about the middle of page 34 in the book (the re-release with the new cover from last month, I'm not sure if the pages are the same in all editions.) Oh, and one more thing, Kaz has hooves in the comic, not feet. Once again, if anyone cares.
