Maybe we're lucky?

Just had a glance at the Greyhawk version of our forum and I cannot help but think that maybe we're lucky they shut down Mystara and left it for us to develop?

At the Greyhawk forum there is a long, long thread entitled Dungen 112 or something. It began as a post about an issue of Dungeon Magazine in which an old Greyhawk adventure was reprinted and expanded for 3E D&D.

However, the tread has turned really, really ugly as it has become an quarrel over who-screwed-who back in the old TSR days, when Gary Gygax and others first produced Greyhawk. Some very hard-core fans are very bussy badmouthing the various parties who previously and/or presently produce(d) material for the Greyhawk world.

I am somewhat glad that the Mystara world, its message board and the Vault are places of creative productivity - and in many places compromises - which ensures a wealth of new material for the world we love, rather than a hateful debate over who continues the "true" legacy of the setting.

If the alternative is that hardcore fans dedicate entire (private) forums to badmouthing new material from WotC because it betrays some of the old material, I think we are better off simply producing it ourselves

Agreed! For a long time I wished Mystara was in current publication, but after hearing numerous stories like this and seeing the great material created by fans working together on forums like this one I have to say we are lucky!

I always felt it was better to stay positive and be productive.

Indeed!
There has been a few flame wars on the MML, but they have been rare compared to other lists. I didn't hang out at the old Message Boards so I cant say anything about those, but I never heard anything bad about them.

I guess being a repressed minority makes people stay together

Lets hope we can keep it that way in the future aswell!

I agree, even after the Mystara forum is no longer a minority.

Us Dark Sun fans are equally blessed, I might add. Our forum here seems blessed by a distinct lack of flamey nastiness and cruddy WotC material on Athas.

Well, there goes the "repressed minority" theory...
Now we'll have to think of a whole new way to make ourselves feel better. (Maybe we should declare Mystara an ultra-elitisit club - thus explaining its small numbers, and be snobbish about it at the same time?) ;)
