I'm just looking through the books I own and I just realised that I don't see Modrons in them anywhere for 3.0/3.5. Have they been updated or have they been replaced by the inevitables? Where do I find them?

You should take a look at the "Planar Extinction" thread on this board. There's also one on the topic on the Planes board called (I believe) "Has anyone noticed this". Either of those will pretty much answer your question.

There is a picture of a Modron, a Monodrone I beleive, standing right next to the map of Mechanus in the MotP, and also a paragraph about Regulus that discusses them. It may not have stats for them, but it certainly doesn't ignore their continued existence. Anyway, why worry about it? The official 3e version of Planescape is the Planewalker.com one, where everything is just as it was... (Well, not the original factions and stuff, but at least all the race, planes, and flavor remains how it's suppose to be.)

The modrons were lost in the 3e conversion, supposedly because players thought they were too silly. Hence, the inevitables, who have a much more "kick your arse" style of Law. I still miss the little cogheads, and I wish that everything didn't have to be locked down in regimented understanding. Why have mystery when you can have robots? And modrons had the cooler name.

If they wanted to fix something, why didn't they fix slaad, who are more (evil) than ever?

Oh, don't worry about the Modrons. They're just taking a vacation. Last I heard they were catching some rays down at the beach!

As for the slaad, last I saw them they told me they were heading to the beach too. But they seemed dressed inappropriately. They were all wearing bibs... ;)

Another answer to the fate of the Modrons

Monte Cook: Originally, when it was proposed that they go into the MM, it was decided that there were too many of them, and it would take too much core rulebook space. But the assumption was that they would go into a follow-up book, like Manual of the Planes. But some of the designers didn't like modrons, and so we got the inevitables instead. (I have a hard time even typing that sentence because I'm still a little incredulous, actually.) I love modrons. Really a lot. I did the rogue modron player character rules in Planewalker's Handbook because I wanted to play a clockwork box. I mean, how cool is that?

For the full chat transcript look here.

i have yet to see evidence that such an overwhelming amount of players found them too silly. I'm sure there were players who'd like to see Gith's history accurately transcribed in the planar handbook, but they botched that...

It would also be nice to see the name 'Zerthimon' appear in print in a 3E product (other than than at planewalker.com, of course).
