I haven't read any DL novels published after the War of Souls trilogy and I'd like to know what has happened in the world of Dragonlance ever since. Feel free to spoil.

*****SPOILERS*****

Dhamon Grimwulf, one of the heroes of the heart became a shadow dragon, and eventually fought the Black dragon overlord, Sable (Onsablet) to the death, killing them both.

The Wizard's Conclave has reconvened, albeit the tower of Wayreth is nearly obliterated, and is in the process of being rebuilt.

Black mages are secretly restoring the lost tower of Sorcery from Ishtar, under the guidance of Nuitari.

Sargonnas is the favored deity to take control of the evil pantheon, however Chemosh is creating LOTS of followers to challenge his position (see Margaret Weis's "Amber and Ashes" novel)

Mina, former favored of Takhisis (the One God from WoS) is now the high priestess of Chemosh, and integral to his plans of taking over the evil pantheon.

It seems that Ariakan (or Ariakus, I always get them confused) is going to be brought back to life soon (the son of Zeboim).

There is a new death knight on the scene to 'take the place' of Lord Soth in the form of Ausric Krell. Powerful guy, but dumb as a brick.

The adventure, "Key of Destiny" hints at potentially killing off the final dragon overlord, Gellidus (Frost) and possibly finding a home for the wayward elven people since they've lost their homelands.

That's all I know (or can recall) so far.

I love WOHS but have no idea where you read this. Of course I haven't read all the books so that's probably why. Please let me know! :D

It's in Amber and Ashes. Towards the end of the book.

Just a pet peez of mine, but the correct spelling is Istar rather than Ishtar. Just something about spelling that name incorrectly drives me nutty. :D

(I too was tempted to correct it, but when you quote, you quote....)

Anyways, thanks! :D I haven't read Amber and Ashes because I've only seen the hardcover in stores and I only buy softcovers(cheaper).

Who nearly destroyed the Tower of Wayreth? Is the Tower of Istar in the Blood Red Sea?

Who nearly destroyed the Tower of Wayreth? Is the Tower of Istar in the Blood Red Sea?

For your first question- 2 sorcerers were able to gain entry to the Tower of Wayreth. I can't recall their names at the moment, but one of them had an artifact called the Irda Stone, or something to that effect that absorbed magic, and greatly enhanced his own powers. These 2 sorcerers managed to destroy large portions of the tower before the mages ever even arrived at the tower for the reconvening of the orders.

For your second question- Yes, the Tower of Istar is at the bottom of the Blood Sea. A brief description of it's defenses and airlock mechanism are also provided in the back of the book "Amber & Ashes".- It's currently the residence of 2 black robed mages, who were handpicked by Nuitari. Other than that, the tower seems fully functional again, and is supposed to have all the artifacts and magical items that the KingPriest of Istar locked away during his time as the king, and before the fiery mountain incident. .

My spelling of 'Istar' was a slip-up as I was spelling it the way I pronounce it. Typically though, I'm a stickler for spelling whenever I can (and will often admit when I don't know how to spell something properly), so I kinda surprised myself by letting that one get by me. :embarrass

Typically, I share the same viewpoint as you when it comes to buying either the hard or soft cover version. I will say that Margaret (or whomever) did add some nice goodies at the end of the hardcover version that make it worth it. I've noticed these extra features don't usually make it into the softcover versions. The extras section for Amber & Ashes includes information on the Tower of Istar, a new artifact or two, and complete stats for the current guardians of the Tower of Istar.

For those few thing alone, getting the hardcover version might be worth considering...

Even though the following happens before the return of the gods, the books detail the events in an on-going trilogy by Richard Knaack, called the Minotaur Wars ("Night of Blood" and "Tides of Blood" are available)

There is a new emperor of the Minotaurs, name Hotak De Droka- who took the throne by force and a coup, rather than battle in the arena as has been the customary tradition in Minotaur society for as long as remembered.
His wife is a powerful necromantic mystic
The Minotaurs have an alliance with the ogres (at the cost of selling some of their own kind to the ogres as a 'peace offering', as well as various supplies)

MINOTAUR WARS SPOILER ALERT

Hotak is now dead: he has apparently been succeeded by his eldest son Ardnor. The Forerunner cult has lost its power due to the death of Takhisis.
