As I was watching Carnival last night I couldn’t help but think of the comparisons between it and Ravenloft. If ever there was a TV series based on the Ravenloft setting that would be it. I know the comparison had been made before but last night’s story really jumped out at me (spoilers ahead skip to paragraph 2 to avoid!!!!)****************** ok you were warned if you want to avoid! Last night’s story involved a grandmother who the day her last son was born she went nuts murdering her husband and other two sons. Then she clawed her eyes out. Then there’s the side story about the card reader who’s mother burned to death the end of the first season, her cards keep returning to her even though she’s destroyed them a number of time and even had others destroy them (the main character, the boy actually had a card jump out at him as he burned them. When he showed her the card it wasn’t even a card from her deck). Her dead mother is seen again and again following her. The best scene was as she was walking you see two shadows, then the camera pulls up and there’s only one person walking. CLASSIC! Anyway, I began searching for other movies and TV shows that had a Ravenloft feel or influence. Of course there’s The Others, which even has “the mist”. But I thought it would be an interesting topic for those who see Ravenloft in other places to share… it might even turn some of us on to a great show or movie.
