B3 - Palace of the Silver Princess... a few thoughts

by Marc Saindon

Catharandamus is changed from an evil Cleric to a Warlock who made a pact with Arik. This is like a previous Zargon-Zargos revision, with Arik of the Hundred Eyes being something else than a god or immortal: an Elder evil 'thing' that takes the shape of a huge Beholder with numerous eyestalks (more than most beholders, possibly 100 if one bothers to count when facing such a menace), each with an eye that has a red pupil. Arik is bound Elsewhere, possibly trapped by a rare cooperation of several powerful Beholders. Left behind before his banishment are numerous large magical stones, each associated with a specific eye that once worked like a bit like a LOTR palantir -- these he spread across Mystara to increase his influence, but now they serve in a limited fashion by anchoring his essence to the world. One stone is in Gulluvia (nw Glantri, orange B3) and another in Haven (Karameikos, green B3), two realms ruled each by a princess of House Argenta (a Thyatian family of Wizards?). More stones exist, and a plot device could even involve one ruby finding its way on the Crown of Synn as part of a larger scheme to get Arik to mind-control Synn.

(orange B3 is a bit of a mess, so I'll keep reading a bit)
