Deep Demon

by Mike Harvey

Not all demons are landlubbers. The Deep Demon (inspiration: Death Demon) comes from an aquatic hell... or maybe it's the form a death demon takes beneath the waves.

Deep Demons are 12 feet tall humanoids with scaly blue-green skin, huge ivory tusks like a walrus. Their eyes are huge and round like saucers and an awful yellow color. They have fins where ears should be, that resemble bat wings. Their fingers and toes are webbed and tipped with sharp talons. Instead of wings they have spiny fins that enable them to swim with agility and great speed. Deep Demons attack with claws and fangs (#AT claw/claw/tusk, D 1-6/1-6/2-12 + special). Any victim impaled on the tusks is "stuck" unless they manage to work it out of their body; while so stuck the demon cannot use additional tusk attacks, but can automatically rend each round with both claws attacking at +4. Deep Demons have infravision and can see in the lightless depths up to 120' as well as in their own darkness; they can teleport and cause darkness. When teleporting, if a victim is currently impaled it will be carried to the new location.

Deep Demons are not especially intelligent, but are used as guards and servitors by sorcerers who dwell at the seaside, or by merfolk sorcerers. They can walk onto land but must return to the water within two turns; treat this like a powerful geas the demon is helpless to resist.
