The material component is a tooth from any creature, which is consumed by the spell.
The effects of the spell vary depending on the type of tooth used. Some examples are:

Lycanthrope tooth: The target has a high chance to become infected with lycanthropy and transform into a were-creature of the same type as the tooth donor. The target must make a saving throw vs. death magic every full moon or change into their animal form and lose control of their actions. The target can be cured of lycanthropy by a remove curse spell or other means.

Dragon tooth: The target gains some of the abilities and traits of the dragon type of the tooth donor. For example, the target may gain resistance to a certain element, a breath weapon, or enhanced senses. The target also becomes more draconic in appearance, such as growing scales, horns, or claws. The target may also develop a personality change, becoming more arrogant, greedy, or proud.

Vampire tooth: The target becomes a vampire spawn under the control of the vampire who donated the tooth. The target gains all the abilities and weaknesses of a vampire spawn, such as regeneration, charm, blood drain, and sunlight sensitivity. The target can be freed from the vampire’s control by destroying the vampire or by a wish spell.

Troll tooth: The target gains the ability to regenerate 3 hit points per round, as long as they are not damaged by fire or acid. The target also becomes more savage and hungrier, requiring more food and meat to sustain themselves. The target may also grow extra limbs or heads if they lose any body parts.

Beholder tooth: The target gains one of the eye rays of the beholder who donated the tooth. The target can use this eye ray once per day as a ranged attack with a range of 60 feet. The type of eye ray is randomly determined by rolling a d10. The target also becomes more paranoid and xenophobic, fearing and hating anyone who is different from them.
