The Savage Coast's hispanics or Espa could originally be a settler population from Thyatis that got kicked out when Ylaruam drove out the Empire from its border, in a reversed Reconquista. Needing to relocate a lot of refugees, the Emperor sent them to the Savage Coast.
Verdan or mystaran portugese could be retconned as being from Minrothad, because of the elven settlement of Verdun/Verdon which sounds close enough, and also that both Minrothad and Portugal involve seafaring people, and the Savage Coast seems a logical origin point for the lycanthropy epidemic.
