GSoM Traditions. The Way of Rad and The Trial of the Fish

by Erik

In my campaign world many of the students at The Great School of Magic have individual dorm rooms. The residence of these dorm rooms have a tradition called “The Way of Rad”, which mimics “The Order of the Radiance” followed by the nobles of Glantri. Basically, every time a student gains a new Teir Level of spells (Able to cast s new level of spells) they are required to switch to a new dorm room regardless of how long they had been in that room. The catch is that the new room has usually been “Boobytrapped” by one or more fellow students. These “Boobytraps” are almost always magical in nature and are meant to be a challenge to be overcome by the student, and are usually not dangerous. While these tests come in various forms the first test for a new student is always the same, “The Trial of the Fish”.
“The Trial of the Fish” is always the same and is given to all new students that gets an individual dorm room. A large fish is places in an out of the way place in the dorm room and an Invisibility spell is cast upon it. The new student is then judged on how long it takes them to find and dispose of the fish, as it starts to decompose and smell up the student’s dorm room.
