Gulluvian Marauders (Path of Wild Magic Barbarians)

by Marc Saindon

Retconning the Berserker encounters (p.31) and Aliegha as "Marauders" (Carnival-like Barbarians aligned with the Unseelie Court)

As B3 is an introductory module, a Were-Bear is a bit heavy for a challenge, and the norse Berserkers are a bit out of place in a fairy tale setting.

Instead, Aliegha is just a level 3 Path of Wild Magic Barbarian (or a BECMI Chaotic Fighter aspiring to become an Avenger) allied with Catharandamus, who also is part of a Marauder party. She wears a Bear-mask and the rest of her brethren wear masks of different animals, usually with wild carnival-like designs. They usually choose dangerous animals, like the Big Bad Wolf of fairy tales. The Marauders are unreliable mercenaries, freebooters, racketeers raiders, and brigands. They have ties with Thieves' Guilds, but aren't Thieves themselves. They form various rival gangs, often fighting more with each others than with the authorities. Part of Aliegha's plan is to eventually gather enough support for herself in Gulluvia to become a warlady (feminine of warlord?) of the realm.

One possibility is to have a Lawful PC character who serves in the Gulluvian army or constables trying to keep order and foiling Aliegha's ambitions. Another is to have a Chaotic PC character who is part of a rival Marauder motley or gang trying to break Aliegha's growing grasp. And naturally, should these team up against Aliegha, this could lead to some odd couple/buddy cop adventure, in which both sides of the law are used to stop a growing threat, perhaps as a prequel to B3 itself.
