Isle of Dread: Sect of Genjoo

by Aoz

Adding a Sect to the Isle of Dread

The Sect of Genjoo is a small (but growing), network of a few thousand secret worshipers. However, the Sect is strong in certain Lizardman communities. Serving the Claw of Genjoo, they gather knowledge, information, and relay to their master through nightly prayer. In more distant lands of Mystara, the true believers of the Sect act through proxies, paying the uninitiated for knowledge and missions deem to hazardous for sect members.

Those who prove their usefulness are eventually elevated to membership within the Sect, having their wishes granted by the claw of Genjoo. The sect spans throughout Mystara, though it does little to influence in the world (as of 1010 AC). Members pay homage to the great beasts, Genjoo and the claw of Genjoo, passing as regular members of their respective societies.

It is only through their nightly prayer that they distinguish themselves from their fellows, with prays and some become reptilian to resemble the great beast they worship.

The Sect promises a renewal on life and forgiveness for past deeds. They promise the secret power of Dinomancers for clerics, druids, and wizards or salvation through transformation or reincarnation for all. Instead of corrupting Ka like Dragon #315. The sect at least on the surface wants to bond with the great beasts and the bond is more with Ka/Genjoo. The sect also is against technology in all forms with a focus on destruction on all metal (as it hurts those transformed). The sect looks for membership in the poorest communities and certain clerics, druids even wizards that wish greater power over dinosaurs.

Why would anyone be transformed or reincarnated (for older members) into a scalykind-kin?? The transformation gives the sect member a slow regeneration rate. This will allow a sect member to slowly regrow a missing limb or eye and will stop diseases and poison in the new scalykind-kin form.

Those who seem especially dogmatic or eager to throw their energy in, or, those who are willing to buy their way in using gold pieces (gemstones preferred) or magic items, may be recruited to an inner circle. Enough gold (gemstones) and magic items will get a member moved to the front of the line for reincarnation or transformation.

It's hard to say if all members are fanatics but the more one processes in the Sect of Genjoo the more extreme the Sect member becomes. A Sect member also becomes very devoted after becoming a Dinomancer (Wizard, cleric, or druid), transformed or reincarnated. The Sect takes time to really make things happen, instead using the benefits as carrot to keep the Sect members going and serving the Claw of Genjoo.

We will grow stronger by embracing the great beasts.

Dinomancers are individuals in the sect who are trying to master the art of bonding with the dinosaurs, occasionally even being able to shapeshift into the great beasts. They are primarily found in the Dread Seas, but have also been seen anywhere dinosaurs may roam.

The Dinomancers seek powerful creatures in the Isle of Dread to forge a bond with (similar to a familiar). Led by the deviant crocodile, the dinomancers of the Isles use ancient magics to strengthen the great beasts and themselves along with wiping out advance technology and metal.

The Isle of Dread is a land of exotic beauty and incredible danger. It serves as a magnet for adventurers and explorers alike. Its uncharted jungles are home to the great beasts. The jungles also happen to be home to deadly plants, the Sect of Genjoo, along with mighty dinosaurs the Dinomancers seek.

The Sect of Genjoo and the Dinomancers goals:
-Spread the word and glory of the Sect of Genjoo and expansion of Dinomancers.
-A New World Order with saurian-kin rulers, subjects, and the illusion of democracy.
-A “zero-technology society” without progress, only greater wealth and power for the select rulers.
-Weather and climate change to allow dinosaurs to spread across Mystara
&
-Heal and Save the Masses by saurian-kin transformation or reincarnation.

The Truth:
The Saurian-kin transformation or reincarnation even learning to be a Dinomancer requires Symbiotes of Genjo. The symbiote is implanted inside the host. As host shares 20% exp with the symbiote. As the symbiote gets stronger it will take control of the host for longer periods of time.

The Symbiotes of Genjo creates different breeds of scalykind: "sauroid" type races. Several subraces exist:

and other variations.

Genjo
A ritual can summon the Symbiotes of Genjo from the source of all the symbiotes. The source is a entity called Genjo (not Genjoo/Ka). All the symbiotes are linked to Genjo and when praying at night transmit information to it. Genjo sends information to certain pawns like Brokixluut Qyuxxikxuat the Claw of Genjoo.

Genjo has no problem with the Sect worshipping Ka/Genjoo as the symbiotes worship Genjo without question.
