The Ier and the Di

by P.H. Vd Muijzenberg

Since we have so few classes to choose from, I thought I'd introduce:

The Ier

The Ier live on an atol on the west side of the Fletcher Reef. There's something curious about the atol: It's as if it was once a larger island, all of which has, however, sunk below the water level, whatever the cause, leaving only the growth of coral that indicates where once was an island. The current population of Ier-Island consists of one person. "Person" is a rather uncertain description, as the Ier is a shape-shifter. However, to indicate it is an Ier, it bears an intriciate knot across its left shoulder. The Ier is a magic-user, in the sense that it is capable of using magic. It doesn't actually possess any spells, though, except specialised versions of Cause Blight and Sink Island, that would only have effect if directed towards the island of Di. Plus, it has the ability to change its shape. It also has a resistence against any form of Blight. Whether these are magical is open for debate.

It would seem the Ier dislikes the inhabitants of Di-island, which it refers to as "Easterners". If given the opportunity, it will paint the Easterners in a bad light, hoping to persuade the listener to assist in removing the Easterners from existence. If the listener delves deeper into the history of the Ier and the Easterners, it turns out the Ier are not native to the area, but moved here long ago. In fact, this was so long ago that it does not actually remember the time before the move; just the recollection of seeing the actual island for the first time.
