JOSEPH GOODMAN (The Known Realms and The Known World)

From email correspondence:

Q: There's been talk about your Dungeon Crawl Classics #35: Gazetteer of the Known Realms over on the Mystara Message Boards. It's neat to see the continuing influence of the OD&D "Red Box" and Gazetteers. Are any of your writers Known World enthusiasts? If so, I was wondering if you or they could recommend any of your Dungeon Crawl Classics modules as being particularly fitting for the Known World of Mystara? If so, I'd like to post the recommendations on the Mystara Message Board.

A: I commissioned the cover myself and yes, I can tell you it was heavily influenced by the "red box" and the Gazetteers. I actually have a red box set sitting here on my desk, which I scanned to try to colour match. The red on the DCC boxed set came out a little darker after the printers finished with it, but it's pretty close. I originally tried to get Clyde Caldwell to do the art, too, but he wasn't available. William McAusland did a great job; his final piece is terrific and really captures the feel.

Regarding the writers' influences, I suggest you post to the Goodman Games forums. The authors of the boxed set have already answered quite a few questions about the set, and I'm sure they'd be happy to discuss their influences. There is also an active community there that can direct you to a DCC module or two that might fit your interests.

Let me know if that helps. I'd be happy to answer any future questions as well.
