Mystara campaign report

by Luiz Eduardo Ricon

After a few weeks of schedule conflict, we sat down yesterday to play. Only 2 PCs were present, but the group was up for adventure anyway.

Still hinting at the hooks to the plot of the Veiled Society Module, I let players decide what to pursue next: help the old-lady with those demons in her basement or investigate the dungeon they discovered afer the fight with the Hivebroods (see Creature Catalogue).

They decided to tendo to the old-lady on the next morning and went straight to the recently discovered dungeon, as one does.

Since Mr. Cook was kind enough to reference one of my favorite Poe's short stories (The Cask of Amontillado), I rolled with it and decided to put an undead creature (see stats below) trapped behind a brick wall and the story of a rival merchant that fell victim to Lord Fortunato's cruel revenge.

They had the help of two of the town's guards after they befriended a sargeant saving some people held captive by the hivebroods as future hosts.

They faced some zombies and got to the chamber beneath Fortunato's basement and cellar, where they found a recent brick wall and the knight heard chimes and rattling behind the wall. They started taking down the wall and the creature attacked.

A great combat and very clever descisions gave us the perfect session closure.

I know I'm taking a LOT of liberty towards the module but I can't help it. Given the name FORTUNATO, it was impossible for me not to create a link to 'The Cask of Amontillado'.

Next week they will probably stumble upon Lucia's body (and the veiled thugs). Or they will help the old-lady and discover that the tunnels run for several blocks beneath the city.

Now they are more familiarized with the rules and their characters and I guess the fun will really start!
