Way of Mana (5e Monk Way of the Sun Soul variant)

by Marc Saindon

(Monk: Way of the Sun Soul)

"Kamehameha!"

In earlier post (in 2022), I suggested a Monk class based on the Lua Hawaiian martial arts (see notes) for the Makai polynesian culture of Ierendi. Now, trying to wedge in the 5e Way of the Sun Soul into Mystara, I think it could work as a Makai faction - even though Way of the Sun was clearly designed to play Dragon Ball Z in D&D (just as Way of the Elements is a pastiche of Avatar the Last Airbender). The animal motif of the Way of Mana is the Sea Turtle. They see Chi or Ki as Mana.

Because they are highly skilled sailors, Makai martial artists are found throughout the Sea of Dread and beyond, so while their main school is in Ierendi, they do a few training halls in Ochalea and even further away in Yasuko, and have recruited non-Makai students into the fold.

Because of their powers connected to the light, practitioners Way of Mana opposes agents of P?, "Night Folk" who may include primordial sea monsters from deep, undead, kara-kara, devil swine, worshippers of Lovecraftian aberrations, and... fallen Way of Mana Monks (which manipulate a sickly green flame instead of the light). However, when without external threats, they are prone to duel among themselves.
