It's impossible to make a cross-section of Mystara without first resolving some basic contradictions between Mystara's official hex maps, world maps, and indeed diagrams. The Outer World is especially problematic, as the hex maps are scaled such that there is simply not enough space for them to fit if official dimensions are used. There are multiple conflicting sets of official dimensions, too. Finally, the official diagrams do not match up with any of these fully.

The Atlas considers large scale hex maps to be the most reliable source, while the Master Set world map is the only reliable source for expanding the hex maps. Latitude lines marked on official maps are inconsistent and ultimately less important than the scale of the hex maps, and so have been reassigned by fitting the world map to the known hex mapped areas and determining the dimensions of the world anew.

The position of the polar lip is not precisely defined in official sources. The Hollow World Set world maps show the regions between 60º and 90º as only about two thirds the size of the rest of the map, with 90º apparently defined as the beginning of the polar lip. This implies that the lip begins at 80º, but this is not possible if the lip curvature is gradual, as the text explicitly states.

The Hollow World Set cross-section shows the lip beginning at 71º , but in doing so fails to accurately represent the relative dimensions of the inner and outer worlds as presented on the same set of poster maps.
