New Demons

by WingofCoot

I'm not really sure if this thread should be here or in the Classic D&D forum... it's mostly stats, but they're tied in to the Gold Box cosmology.

I found some very old notes recently from when I first read the Gold Box Immortals Set (when I was 14 or thereabouts), with some new monsters in them. (Some editing and expansion has been done, but they're basically the same creatures as before, so they may suffer from being made when I was 14.)

The first two are "lesser demons", mortal-level minions of Entropic Immortals. They have no Power Points.

Demon, Muttering
Armor Class: 1
Hit Dice: 10
Hit Points: 50
Move: 90' (30')
-- Flying: 90' (30')
Attacks: 1 tail/2 claws/1 horn/1 bite
Damage: 1-3/1-4/1-4/1-8/1-6
No. Appearing: 1 (1)
Save As: Fighter 10
Morale: 12
Treasure Type: N/A
Alignment: Chaotic
XP Value: 1,750*

These creatures resemble gargoyles but are larger, more exaggerated (oversized horns, spikes running along the spine, etc.), and have a lash-like tail.

While "artificially" created by Immortals of Entropy such as demons (they are not a "natural" or self-reproducing species), they are made of living reptilian flesh and not stone constructs like true gargoyles.

Either used as dungeon guardians or sent as (deniable, because mortal-level) assassin beasts, they are very deadly in combat due to their multiple attacks.

*my old notes say 1,650 but this appears to be calculated incorrectly.

Screeching Demon
Anti-Magic: 20%
Armor Class: 0
Hit Dice: 12
Hit Points: 60
Move: 120' (40')
- - Flying: 210' (70')
Attacks: 1 weapon/1 bite or 2 claws/1 bite
Damage: By weapon/1-6 or 1-4/1-4/1-6
No. Appearing: 1 (1)
Save As: Fighter 12
Morale: 12
Treasure Type: N/A
Alignment: Chaotic
XP Value: 2,125

These minions of Entropy, "false vampires", resemble a huge humanoid bat (with two muscular arms as well as the bat wings). They are extremely fast fliers.

They usually carry two-handed swords, likely magical ones. If unarmed, they strike with claws instead. In either case, they also attack with a foul bite which infects victims who fail a Saving Throw vs Poison with an Entropic disease. Those affected by this disease cannot regain hit points until the disease is cured, and also lose 1 hp per day.

Victims of the disease become pallid, cold, and clammy. As the bite marks do not heal while the disease is active, they are often mistaken for victims of a vampire. This is exactly the point - these very rare beings (like the Muttering Demon, they are not a natural self-perpetuating species) were created by Orcus to sow confusion. Sunlight, garlic, and running water are completely harmless to them.
