Onna-musha (Female Samurai 5e Fighter subclass)

by Marc Saindon

This is just me using a highlighter on the Samurai subclass. There were female samurai, so if you're Mass Combat, Yasukan recruitment should be Male & Female, not just Male like in Ochalea. I've mentioned this already in a post about the Kensei Monk, so this is just a refresher.

The Onna-musha would expectedly fill in the ranks of reservists and auxiliary, play a more defensive role (while men engage the field), but individual women have become celebrated fighters in real history (see wiki link in notes). I would make Onna-musha have a tendency to be a bit more proficient with polearms (defensive Dex-builds centering around the naginata) than swordplay and archery, but be still be quite familiar with both of these; this would be the "expected" female samurai, while players can customize as desired.

Logically, a Samurai occupies the upper castes of Yasukan society, so they're more likely to be Human or Rakasta, although a Bakemono Goblin could be "the little Onna-musha that could" that outproves expectations, and a blue-eyed Thyatian adopted into a noble household could have this career path, despite starting out as an outsider.
