Alternative locations for Rahasia

by Demos Sachlas

My favoured location for Rahasia is in the hills northwest of Lake Amsorak.

The river originating in the hex just to the northwest could be "in the Hantu valley, beyond the Great Falls..."

I think this is a great location for a number of reasons. Firstly, because Akesoli is an underused starting-point for adventurers. Secondly, because the module draws heavy inspiration from Indonesian cultural references, and the area to the west of the Republic of Darokin is the Sind - Mystara's version of the Indian subcontinent.

I don't like placing Rahasia near Selenica for a couple of reasons. It detracts from the isolated feel of the module, and it raises too many questions about why such a very different tribe of elves would be living so close to the Elves of Alfheim. Lastly, the Emirates of Ylaruam are based on Arabic sources - which is not the same thing as Indonesia.

One of my favourite modules. It can be set almost everywhere. You can also fit it in Glantri (Erewan woods), and the evil cleric will make a lot of sense. It's also good in Karameikos, Thyatis or Soderfjord, which are close to Ylaruam.

The most classic setting is Darokin, though.

I did some work to fit this into my world. I placed it east of Kelvin. I also moved Stallanford.

The campaign started with Kings Festival, which involved an elf dying in the attack that happens before the players arrive. After doing kings festival, they took the elven body back to Kota-Hutan. Thus it needed to be placed somewhere nearby. It also meant that they had to get used to using Misha's ferry, which will make it more impactful in B10.

The Ylari influence, I built into it by having the Rahib being an apostate against al-Kalim, hunting for a powerful magical device (the black opal) to protect himself against the Sultan's warrior - Baik Telor.

Fits quite neatly together like that.
