The Galleon

by Rafael Lopes Vivian

Another part of my series inspired on Tower of Doom/Shadow over Mystara. I made a four-story Galleon based on an old design by TSR: from steerage deck (the lowest), over to cargo deck, then main deck, and finally over the stern castle and forecastle. This is kind of a work in progress, because although it could be used as it is, the top deck is looking a bit sparse for my taste.

Again, like last map, I didn't take a hell of a lot of time to work on some much needed extra rooms and conveniences, items, dirt, and specially lighting, which always makes a huge difference in the end result. Because this series is so long (over twenty scenarios, maybe almost a hundred little maps) I wanted to cross the finish line as soon as possible. I feel like I overdid it to be honest, as the boat stage of Tower of Doom is quite short and annoying, and here's me designing a bigass ship. Oh well, there's always use for a large ship battlemap on any other campaign, and also I needed the practice. It's not amazing, but it's enough for the day.

The Galleon is swarmed by a pack of very vicious troglodytes who quickly overpower almost all of the crew. When you get to the main deck and eventually on top of the stern castle, a water troll is there waiting to eat you.

This was done in Dungeondraft, some 5 hours work. 32 x 40 squares (5ft each).
